Hardware
The Asylum is currently running on three machines. One machine is dedicated to running the forums. A second server runs DNS, mail and other applications. Finally, the third machine which runs the search functions and DNS backup in addition to being our mirror server, is donated by a company on the other side of the continent (we also are not paying our share of the T-1 for that system).
Our requirements for the upcoming year for hardware and replacement of current systems is as follows:

Our prorated expense of shared colocation cage $125/month.
Value of T-1 usage at Millennium Web, Ltd., $125/month.
Total Internet Services Cost = $3k per year

We also need to make the following software aquisitions:
Programming
Depending on who does it:
$100/hour (cheap) and probably 4-6 weeks for Music Review Database. The scope of this project is beyond the capabilities of our current volunteer group.
Total Programming Cost = $16-24k for labor (probably underestimated by 50%)
Disaster Recovery
Right now, the Asylum is relying upon 1 disk drive. At this point, we probably could not entirely rebuild the site.
Our long range plans include full real-time mirroring of the message boards to another server, so that a primary server crash will mean very little real down time. We expect to be able to reuse some of the current servers for this purpose so hardware cost will be minimal. An expenditure would be required to acquire the proper software for this task.
Total Disaster Recovery Cost = $2-5k
Security
Hackers exist; the Asylum is in need of an audit and policy/process
development. This is expected to take 16 hours at about $100.00/hr. An additonal 1-2 hours per month (bare minimum) is required to stay on
top of security issues.
Total Security Consulting Cost = $3-4k
GRAND TOTAL = $47,000 to $61,000
Moderation
Moderation is done on a volunteer basis, with no compensation of any kind.
Each Moderator invests approximately 20-80 hours/month or more making sure that the Asylum is a good place to visit. These 20 individuals invest a total of well over 1,500 hours a month in this endeavor. No pledge dollars will go to pay moderators.
Without their volunteered hours, there would not be an Asylum. Note that at minimum wage, moderation represents a $10,000 per month "in-kind contribution".
