Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Passive - Just a Niles Audio input selector and an Intact Audio autoformer volume control
Speakers: JBL LSR-305 active
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Pioneer Elite PD-D6-J
Turntable/Phono Stage: Fairchild 412-1 w/ Japan Piezo PU-402 tonearm, Audio Technica ATVM-95E cartridge, Hagerman Bugle with 6DJ8 anode follower for a little extra gain and some tube 'juice'
Other Source(s): Raspberry Pi/Moode music player w/ Allo Boss DAC
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Belden or Canare shielded interconnect w/ Switchcraft metal RCA plugs.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Large 20A Corcom EMI/RFI power filter
Room Size (LxWxH): 24 ft x 12 ft x 8 ft
Room Comments/Treatments: mass loaded vinyl under carpet
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): classical (Bach to Berg), jazz (not pop-jazz)
System Goals/Comments: I need to put a better tonearm on the Fairchild!
System Strengths: Does natural timbres very well for a relatively inexpensive system.
System Weaknesses: LSR-305 speakers have pretty loose bass response, and not the most detailed presentation -- but smooth as can be.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Sceptre 32" 1080p LCD
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Panasonic SA-XR57 (run in stereo)
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Snell E-II
Sources (DVD/VCR): Sony Bluray player
Comments on HT System: The receiver sounds pretty good, but it's not as smooth/'musical' as the music-only system. Still, it's good for movies, TV and some tunes. It's surprising how good SACDs resampled to 24bit/176.4kHz can sound using the HDMI connection from the Bluray player to the receiver. The receiver's analog inputs sound awful.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Hiking, skiing
