AnalogDog 's Audio Luddite System
IP Address: 198.184.151.253 Last Update: October 27, 2014 at 11:22:58
Amplifier: Odyssey Kismet Extremed Monoblocs...Klaus' flagship amps, circa 2009.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): (Old) Quicksilver full function preamp. Phono section used via tape outs into tubed EarMax headphone amp, converted into a linestage. Don't laugh! Considerably more transparent than the one in the old QS, which is giving me noise, thus the fix.
Schiit Audio Valhalla now serves as headphone amp, driving an ancient beat up pair of Sennheiser HD 580's.
Speakers: Audio Physic Virgo
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Sony 9000XAE? I don't remember their stupid model numbers. It was top drawer, 10 years ago.I'll listen to this when something's wrong with my analog chain.I'd never pay 3K for any CDP; but somebody gave this one to me.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Teres 2000 series. Morch UP 4. Shure V15VxMR with JICO SAS stylus. Phono section of the QS preamp.
Other Source(s): There are other sources?
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: DH LABS BL-1 interconnects. Cardas Quadlink speaker cables
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Ancient Target TT5T rack. Pangea AC 14's for the CDP and the Schiit Valhalla. Pangea AC 9's for the Kismets.
Tweaks: The EarMax has a superb volume pot, but lacks a balance control (naturally!). Need 3 db attenuation of L. channel. Accomplished this with Paul Speltz Autoformer. Using the 2x taps on the left monobloc gave me exactly 3db of attenuation, and a correct center image.
Room Comments/Treatments: Room is almost a perfect square. Horrible!!
Situated Virgos in a Golden Mean rectangle, which helps a lot, but there's clearly work to be done.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Classical.
System Goals/Comments: Fix the room.
System Strengths: Clean, clear, powerful and dynamic. Revealing enough, but not at ALL fatiguing, no matter long I listen, or how loud I go.
System Weaknesses: The room.
Video/HT System: None
