Dman's A work (still) in progress... System
IP Address: 173.238.119.222 Last Update: February 07, 2024 at 16:31:32
Amplifier: Class D Audio SDS-254L amplifier. DIY kit based on the more powerful SDS-470C. 125Watts/channel @8 Ohms/250Watts/ channel @4 Ohms. 500 Watts bridged mono @ 8 Ohms. Warm, punchy, seriously dynamic and able to play my Adire Audio DDRs to listening levels louder than I need without showing any sign of clipping. A serious bargain in it's price range ($550 - 650, depending on assembly options).

Subwoofers driven with SWR Stereo 800 power amplifier (400W/4ohm/channel). May go the Class D route for these as well in the future...
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Flemming Audio Labs (distributed by Omega Audio) Custom Cathode Follower Preamplifier with MM phono stage.

Flemming Audio Labs Stage 1 Moving Coil head amp!
Speakers: Adire Audio DDR Dipole speakers.

Subwoofer- a pair of Ripole sub prototypes using Dayton Audio Titanic 1200 MK II 12" driver.

Crossover- Paradigm X-30 for both high and low pass.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Still waiting. No hurry...
Turntable/Phono Stage: Main cartridge- Ortofon Kontrapunkt-A (MC) with Sound Smith "Level Two" Ruby Cantilever and Contact Line Stylus.

DIY FrankenLinn LP-12 clone table with Linn Axis power supply.

Other Source(s): Panasonic Multidisc DVD/DVD-A/CD/HDCD
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Speaker connection- Linn K-20 (bi-wired).

Interconnects- Bryston/Neutrik "Pro-Fi" RCA connectors on Commscope RG-6 Coax cable.

Stage 1 head amp to preamp terminated with 22awg Teflon coated silver plated nickel wire and soldered directly from the 'table's DIN connection to Stage 1 input. Output cable soldered directly to PCB and terminated to Bryston/Neutrik "Pro-Fi" RCA connectors.

12AWG Radio Shack OFC speaker cables (terminated with Banana plugs) for subs.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Standard RFI/EFI surge protection power bars- low level equipment.

Everything else is plugged directly into the AC receptacle.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): I used to listen to hard rock extensively, but I now like techno and all that encompasses- like trance, house, ambient, IDM, Hyper Glitch, and ESPECIALLY old school 80's style, new wave and dance, etc, Hammond organ jazz & progressive rock (Jimmy Smith, Keith Emerson & Lonnie Johnson rule!!!!), Classical/operetta (G&S)and acoustic guitar (more like Beck's mutations and Radiohead type of stuff) as well as Michael Hedges!

The latest thing- "golden era" jazz and big band.

Oh yes, drumming and percussion stuff as well - Terry Bozzio, Dafos, and various ensembles in that genre.
System Goals/Comments: I'm always on the search for the best possible (NATURAL SOUNDING) components available on the cheap!!!! Since the system is also used for confidence monitoring and mastering (for my partnership indie label 'Scrumpy Records'), its gotta sound good all the time!!!
System Strengths: The new Adire Audio DDR speaker image even better than the DQ-10s. This may not be saying much if you have no idea what the 10s were ORIGINALLY capable of, but the DDRs are VERY GOOD! Incredibly good pace and timing- it gets me there (I used to play drums- now a bassist), so that's all that matters for the time being!
System Weaknesses: Overall output volume is not quite as loud as I would like the system to play. But when used within it's boundaries, the system is incredibly musical and life-like...
