Other Source(s): Movies, DVD concerts, youtube (party mode only)
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: IC: VanDenHul The Integration Hybrid
Harrison Labs in-line 6dB attenuator between CD player and preamp
Sp: QED "original"
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Ikea "Lack" coffee tables with shorthened, strenghtened legs, as audio rack;
Something Solid dissipation feet
German-made power strip (aluminum, Ollflex cable),
Bailiyn filtered power strip (on the active crossover only, so far)
Tweaks: All my electronics have received some degree of tweaking, mostly capacitors / op-amps / local decoupling
Room Comments/Treatments: Some absorption on front wall inbetween speakers - the room needs more treatment
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Eclectic - electro, jazz, folk, house, baroque, french chanson,...
System Goals/Comments: big, lifelike sound - goal reached, could do with some more finesse on the most demanding music styles; globally very satisfied with the outcome
System Strengths: unflappable dynamics and SPL (104dB/W/m + bi-amping)
huge sound
Organic, palpable image
Very resolving
Warm, round, wallshaking bass
pride of owning some unique, dIY system
System Weaknesses: Magnifying glass effect
Bad recordings sound...bad
Image is 3D but forms in front of the speakers
System too big for the actual room but I can't bring myslef to downsize...
Impossibility to listen at very low SPL due to speakers sensitivity and gain structure.
Some more transparency and finesse would be required on the most demanding music styles: electronics at that price level can only go so far, even with a lot of tweaking...
Video/HT System: None
