Last Update: April 13, 2002 at 22:20:04 IP Address: 24.208.252.52
Amplifier: · HeadRoom Max Headphone Amplifier (2001 version)

· DIY portable headphone amplifier (cmoy/Apheared/Hansen-type) built by a friend (JMT)

· DIY portable headphone amplifier (cmoy/Apheared/Hansen-type) built by a friend (JMT), using an Altoids tin as the case

· HeadRoom Total AirHead portable headphone amplifier

Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): · None, though the HeadRoom Max could be used as a two-input preamp if necessary.
Speakers: · Sennheiser HD-600 headphones (for home)

· Sennheiser HD-600 headphones (for office)

· Etymotic ER-4S earphones (for use portably and at the home and office)

· Sony MDR-7506 headphones (for home)

· Sony MDR-V6 headphones (for office)

Sources:
CD Player/DAC: · Sony ES SCD-C333ES SACD/CD player (for home)

· Denon DCM-370 CD/HDCD player (for office)

· Radio Shack CD-3904 portable CD player when portability is called for

Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: · Cardas Neutral Reference interconnects (currently reviewing -- and so considering -- cables by Cardas, Acoustic Zen, Tara Labs, and Stealth).

· Acoustic Zen Tsunami power cord between BPT balanced power isolator and HeadRoom Max headphone amplifier (currently reviewing -- and so considering -- powercords by Cardas, Acoustic Zen, Tara Labs, and Stealth).

· Custom interconnect for portable rig made by Markertek, using Canare L-4E6S Star Quad cable and Canare F-12 connectors

Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): · BPT (Balanced Power Technologies) customized BP-3 dual balanced power isolator

· Brick Wall PW8R15AUD series mode surge filter / power conditioner

Tweaks: · The BP-3 was the single most effective tweak-type thing I've added to my rig, not only lowering the noise floor (best tested with something like Etymotic earphones), but giving greater three-dimensionality to the imaging

· The Brick Wall has done a great job of eliminating sump pump and refrigerator power line line noise from my home headphone hi-fi rig (in addition to providing a better noise floor and what is likely the best available surge suppression)

Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): · Jazz

· 70's rock (Steely Dan, Little Feat, others)

· Good 80's rock (Jane's Addiction, others)

· Bluegrass

· Classical

· Soundtracks

System Goals/Comments: · 99.99% of my hi-fi listening is through headphones.
System Strengths: · Extracts an insane amount of detail from the source material

· Deep, accurate bass reproduction

· Overall smooth sound

· Extremely accurate across the whole spectrum

· Can be listened to at any volume level without disturbing others

System Weaknesses: · Can't easily be shared (it's a headphone system)
Video/HT System: None
