MtBiker's 2 channel madness System
Last Update: October 14, 2002 at 08:59:08 IP Address: 66.134.72.224
Amplifier: Aragon 8008BB or Odyssey Stratos Stereo with 120kuf cap upgrade
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Bryston BP-25
Speakers: - DIY 2way Vifa monitors - 8ohm, ported, 1" metal dome tweeter, 6.5" poly cone midbass, 40lbs 1" thick cabinets, sand filled 26lbs stands with 5 degree tilt, carpet spikes

- DIY NHT1259 powered sub (150W) - 1" thick sealed cabinet, sandbag on top, 50Hz crossover frequency

- Sennheiser HD580

Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Rega Planet 2000
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: DIY braided silver plated copper with teflon insulation (interconnect and speaker)
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): - DIY rack looks like a Salamander with the 4 threaded rods. Top 2 shelves have at least 10lbs of sand in each one. Top shelf was leveled after placement in room.

- Isolation transformer & Pi filter for preamp & CD player

Tweaks: - CD player sits on a piece of glass which is supported by 4 hemispheres (2 soft rubber balls cut in half)

- Just for the hell of it, I have my power cables routed horizontally and my signal cables routed vertically so that they cross at 90 degree angles

- Various ferrite cores on power cables

Room Comments/Treatments: wall directly behind couch has a chenile blanket hanging on it with polyester batting behind it. Simple, looks decent, highly recommended
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): rock, blues, flemenco
System Goals/Comments: Happy where I am now, but....future plans include building new speakers. My goals are to match or better my current speakers' low level detail while adding a far greater dynamic range.
System Strengths: quiet, low noise floor, detailed, wide bandwidth, plays flamenco and Dire Straits just as well as Marilyn Manson and Tool
System Weaknesses: low level detail, that last dose of realism
Video/HT System: None

Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Interests include anything computer related, cycling of all types, and I am a Unix sysadmin by profession
