Mojave Green's Basement System
Last Update: February 27, 2005 at 13:03:18 IP Address: 65.205.165.30
Amplifier: Carver AV-806x (run in 4-channel mode to biamp Sapphires).
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): PS Audio PCA-2 (with multichannel card).
Speakers: ACI Sapphire IIIs augmented by ACI Titan powered subwoofer.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Denon DVD-3910 universal player for SACD and DVD-Audio playback, and as a transport feeding EVS Millennium II DAC for CD.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Music Hall MMF-7 turntable, Monolithic PS-1 phono stage with HC-1 power supply.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Interconnects are Ven Haus Pulsar and DH Labs BL-1, with DH Labs subwoofer cable for the Titan. Digital cable is Bolder 1695a. Speaker cables are DH Labs Silver Sonic.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Most components are plugged into a Panamax Max 5500 Regenerator.
Components sit on a Vantage Point rack with tube supports filled with a sand/shot mix.
Tweaks: Dedicated 20-amp circuit for the system. Ven Haus power cords for DAC, preamp, and line conditioner. Mapleshade brass cones for Denon player. ACI brass cones for the Titan sub. SilClear contact enhancer (so far, on power cords only).
Room Comments/Treatments: I have a few strategically placed fiberglass panels to cut down on side-wall reflections. Heavy drapes across french doors behind the listening position.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Folk, rock, blues, world -- lots of acoustic stuff.
System Goals/Comments: Over the years, I've focused on getting great soundstaging. It's pretty 3-D now. Much easier now to slip into that late-night, lights-out trance mode.
System Strengths: Transparent, nimble, and dynamic, with focused imaging. Bass had been a bit lightweight, but is more solid after adding PS Audio preamp.
System Weaknesses: Everthing's gelling pretty well.
Video/HT System: None
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Volunteer DJ at a local college radio station.
