Warren Warren's Main HT and Music System
Last Update: December 04, 2001 at 21:59:28 IP Address: 63.140.34.36
Amplifier: Currently Onkyo TX-DS939 with 2 Onkyo M504's and 3 Onkyo M5060's.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Hopefully soon, an Anthem AVM-20
Speakers: 2 B&W Matrix 801 series II
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Onkyo 5500, looking to add some changers.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Used to have a Technics SLP-1200, but rarely used it. I like vinyl, but CD's are too convenient, and much lower maintenance.
Other Source(s): 2 TEAC Tape Decks, one Audiotron, one PC
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Prefer not to say
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): 1 Monster HTS-5000, one HTS-2500, 2 APC Smartups600's, 1 BSR EQ, 1 DBX 3BX-3, one Hughes AK-100 SRS, one ADC Digital Delay, 1 Clark Synthesis Tactile Transducer. Rack custom built into side wall with plexiglass door to keep little girls from stuffing PB&J sandwiches into the VCR.
Tweaks: Sound Anchors stands for B&W's, Vibrapods isolation feet, homemade tube traps. Spent 2 weeks moving main speakers around. Now, they aren't moving again, EVER! (Maybe)
Room Size (LxWxH): 22 x 14 x 8
Room Comments/Treatments: Room built as designated HT/Listening room, with columns built out from walls at approximately where 1st and 2nd reflections would be most pronounced. Staggered stud configuration with insulation woven between studs. Wall behind main speakers is covered with eggshell foam, with curtains in front, with opening for screen. This allows speakers to be placed closer to rear walls (about 18" off). Also, tray lighting breaks up solid flat ceiling, as does projector box. Hard tile floor has large throw rug between main speakers and seating.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Anything by PF, LZ, Rush, Supertramp, Spyro Gyra, Steely Dan, Sade, Basia, SRV, VH, 3rd Eye Blind, Yellowjackets, Weather Report, Jethro Tull, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Baroque and Chamber music, especially the Italian composers, Russian classical when I want to be depressed. Really, just about anything but Gangsta Rap.
System Goals/Comments: To be able to play as loud as I want or as quiet as I want, and still hear everything!
System Strengths: My B&W's- They were always my dream from the first time I listened to them almost 20 years ago. They still sound great.
System Weaknesses: My Onkyo Receiver. Great as an HT receiver, but not so great for clean sound for music only. Plus, I don't even use the amp stages in it. It is just acting as a preamp.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Projector
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: as above
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): B&W CDM CSE center, 4 JBL AS-6 In-wall speakers, 1 JBL powered sub, soon to be replaced by Velodyne or M&K

Sources (DVD/VCR): Sony DVD, Sony HiFi VHS, Dish Network Satellite Receiver
Other HT Gear: TVOne XGA converter and line doubler. Clark Synthesis Tactile Transducer mounted to bottom of couch.
Comments on HT System: Not only would I rather watch a movie here at home, but my freinds, family, and neighbors would rather come here than go to the theater too! But, they don't pay me admission. Maybe I should start charging.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Interests- Wife and daughter. Travel. Exotic Pets. Playing piano and keyboards. Career Navy-now a reservist, with real job as an EE with a major defense contractor.
