highfidelity's Audio Room System
IP Address: 68.203.6.164 Last Update: October 31, 2019 at 21:32:57
Amplifier: Parasound Halo A-23. 125 wpc into 8 ohms. Also have an Adcom GLA-535-II amp and a Yamaha CA-2010 integrated amp.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Currently using Cary SLP-98P custom (actually it's a model that was tentatively to be called the V-12P that was never manufactured - only shown at CES - in 2000 I think). Cary eventually chose the SLP-98P name for this preamp, except mine has 6V6GT's as followers instead of the 6SN7's that production models have. It also has '52 NOS Sylvania BadBoys. Built in Jensen MC transformers. Gold faceplate with polished stainless steel chassis. Looks and sounds great. Also have Reference Line Preemminence One Series II, Classe CP-35 II and Nakamichi CA-5A-II preamps and a couple of vintage receivers.
Speakers: Martin-Logan CLS, Series 1, walnut trim, factory updated in '04. ML Depth i subwoofer for the CLS. Sometimes use ML Monoliths, Series II also in walnut. I also have a very nice pair of Altec Model Nineteen's and a pair of 70's Klipsch Cornwalls currently stored in the closet.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Oppo BD-103 Universal player, also use as a DAC with a 4TB solid state drive.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Currently using Luxman PD-441 direct drive, with magnetically suspended platter, Lustre GST 801 tonearm with Ortofon Kontrapunkt B MC cartridge. Currently using a Michell Delphini phono stage as one channel went down in the phono section of my preamp. I also have Fidelity Research FR-64S and Micro-Seiki MA-505 tonearms for the Luxman. Currently not using my Michel Gyrodec (early) with Helius Orion arm and original Koetsu Black. Also have a Denon DP-60 and a Pioneer PL-41.
Other Source(s): Revox B-77 Mk II 1/4 track, Crown CX-822 1/2 track open reel decks. Nakamichi Dragon, Nakamichi 700 Series-II, Luxman K-03 cassette decks, McIntosh MR-71 tuner retubed with NOS tubes or Sansui TU-9900 tuners. Current tuner I am using in the new room is Carver TX-11a.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Kimber 8TC, 12' speaker run; Kimber KCAG, PBJ; Nordost Red Dawn, Tara RSC CD interconnects. Recently purchased some Mogami interconnects with RCA connectors at subwoofer end and balanced at amp end. This change TRANSFORMED the Parasound amp. It was made to be run balanced and it sounds WAY better that way.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Using an antique French country table instead of a rack. VERY heavy. Target amp stand for the Parasound.
Tweaks: None.
Room Size (LxWxH): 20 x 18 x 10
Room Comments/Treatments: I moved to a new home and now I have a dedicated audio room with 10 foot ceilings and WTW carpet. The high, asymetric ceilings are nice. No significant standing wave problem.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Rock, jazz, classical (even some opera), traditional country, bluegrass.
System Goals/Comments: The goal is low distortion, wide bandwidth and see through imaging.
System Strengths: Clarity, speed, low distortion and effortless are the system goals along with superb musicality. Image is wide, deep and tall with the 'stats.
System Weaknesses: Would like to have all silver wire interconnects, eg Kimber KCAG. May go to a computer audio system for digital playback. Still contemplating how best to go about it in the new room.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Sony 65" 4K Z9D LED TV.
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Parasound A-23 amp to use with the Celestion's listed below, but not connected as of now.
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Don't care about surround. I do have a couple of Celestion AVF302GL speakers that I was using for the TV but quit using them after the move. I need an inexpensive amp for them and then I'll hook them back up.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Panasonic Blu-Ray. HD cable box and DVR combo.
Comments on HT System: Dunno about multi-channel. Not a high priority. Finally was wired for HD on 7/14/06! Red letter day!
