Nakamichi CA-1 pre-pro

Speakers: Legacy Whispers in custom rosewood finish: 95db@2.83v/1m, 4ohm,22-30KHz plus/minus 2db.

Sources:
CD Player/DAC: DDS Pro cd transport w/ modified stable platter mechanism.

Camelot Technologies Uther v2.0 Mk3 DAC following DTI Pro32 digital resolution enhancer with Adaptive Dither chip upgrade and improved Power Station 2, all via Camelot Excallibur I2S cables

Other Source(s): Sony DVP7700 for DVD and CD playback.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Nordost SPM biwire with solderless locking WBT connectors, Nordost SPM balanced IC, Nordost Moonglow digital cable. Other speaker wires used frequently include Recoton 12 awg, and GomerCable DIY Cat5, both in a single wire configuration.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Vantage Point Contours Rosewood rack with silver tubes. Two Vantage Point Contours rosewood ampstands with silver tubes.
Tweaks: No voodoo. Excellent speaker placement. Guilty of using an Audioprism CD Backlight cd matt occasionally, but only for the purpose of making it easier to read the labels on the discs at night, owing to there tendency to give off illumination when first exposed to a light source for a sufficient period of time. SPM speaker wire is housed in a custom non-conductive semi-rigid vinyl sheathing with wound nylon mesh which serves to protect the SPM from accidental damage, as it is somewhat fragile and prone to being creased, etc, if inadvertantly stepped on.
Room Size (LxWxH): 29.5 x 14.5 x 8.0
Room Comments/Treatments: Accoustic ceiling, heavy carpet, dry wall, some overstuffed furniture, Vertical fluted wooden columns on either side of room act as diffusers, otherwise none. Fireplace on right side wall produces a reflection requiring covering the fireplace glass door with sound absorbing material.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Accoustic ensemble, symphonic, chamber, jazz, well recorded vocals including good a capella, accoustic guitar, flamenco. Varied selections including work by Diana Krall, King's Singers, Jesse Cook, Miles Davis, Rebecca Pidgeon, Eagles, Cassandra Wilson, Ricki Lee Jones, Joshua Redman, Christian McBride, Steely Dan...could go on forever, so I won't.
System Goals/Comments: Accuracy in reproduction of what is recorded on the disc.
System Strengths: Detailed, very airy and transparent, deep, deep soundstaging with excellent imaging. The widest sweet spot I have ever experienced. Delicate highs, deep extended tight bass. Beautiful, smooth midrange. Bottom line: very accurate to what is recorded on the disc. Good recordings sound great. Crappy recordings don't sound as nice.
System Weaknesses: I wish I had my own dedicated listening room/HT.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Sony VPL W400Q Front Projector ceiling mounted and projecting onto a Draper Clarion M2500 101" x 58" 16:9 fixed screen. Sony
is fitted with IMX 923 optical image processor.
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: OM90.1a pure Class A 90w monos for left and right front main channels, Nakamichi CA-1 Pre-Pro. OM150 Overture stereo amp for rear surrounds.
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Intentionally do not use a center channel speaker. Any center would be inferior to the perfectly integrated and excellent phantom center rendered by the Whispers, a la the Goldmund Home Theater Concept. The system audios make great surrounds for direct radiating speakers, especially high mounted and corner loaded, aiming so as to converge at a point in front of seating area.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Sony DVP-S7700 DVD Player.
Other HT Gear: Sony MDR-DS5000 Virtual 5.1 Digital Surround Headphone System used on occasion for late night Home Theater use when everyone else is asleep.
Comments on HT System: I like it.
