Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz, R&B, Classical, smooth Jazz, Rock, Raggae, even some limited country such as Lyle Lovett. Favorite artists are the Yellow jackets but also love more traditional jazz such as miles and coltrane.
System Goals/Comments: A good balance of detail and warmth. My previous speakers were PSB stratus golds which were very warm. The Thiels are offer more detail and can sound magical with Krell amps. I also like to feel the emotion in music so I prefer solid state amps with high current and sonic kick but that can also produce a nuanced sound. I think I would prefer to have a tube preamp. But I wanted to have an all Krell system and I needed a preamp with a phono stage so I bought this used one. I preferred my Audio Research PH3 for vinyl but I sold it. I may get another one soon if I don't find a tube preamp with a phono stage in my budget that I like.
System Strengths: Sound staging and imaging and detail. Right now my system really images well. At night when i listen with the lights off the speakers disappear. The 3.6s really let you hear what is on the disc which can can be good and bad if the recording isn't very good
System Weaknesses: Sometimes just a tad too lean for my tastes. I think a good tube preamp would match well with my amp. I also have an annoying ground loop which is not audible when music is playing but if you put your ear on the speaker you can hear it when nothing is playing. I can't seem to be able to get rid of it.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: 27 inch Sharp
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: JVC
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): PSB Stratus Golds, Paradigm cc 270 and paradigm dipole surrounds ADP 170 v2
Sources (DVD/VCR): Toshiba entry level DVD player and A JVC High fi stereo vcr
Comments on HT System: As you can see I am just starting out with this system. I have plans to have a thiel system with the new 1.6s in the fronts and a Mitsubisi 47 inch HDTV.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Student services at UW-Madison. Hobbies include chess, listening to music live and through audio systems, bike riding and I love cars
