Egil 's (Not So) Entry-level on a (Growing) Budget System
Last Update: July 03, 2005 at 22:50:47 IP Address: 216.9.3.2
Amplifier: Rega Mira (original model)
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None
Speakers: Naim Credo (2000 model- thus 2nd generation)
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: NAD C 520 as transport with Bel Canto DAC 1 (connected with Harmonic Technology Cyber-Link Copper coaxial digital interconnect)
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Speaker cables: Harmonic Technology Melody Line 12

Interconnects: Harmonic Technology Cyber-Link Copper from CDP/transport to DAC. Harmonic Technology Truth-Link from DAC to amp. The HT cables all seem to synergize nicely!

Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.):

Creek OBH-11 headphone amp (connected with Qnect 1 interconnects), used with Sony MDR-V600 and Grado SR-60 headphones.

Tweaks: Heavy wood cutting board on top of CDP for mass loading/stabilization.
Room Comments/Treatments: Got ourselves a townhouse- with a pretty good listening setup on the long wall- speakers are far enough apart, good seating- heaven!
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Alternative rock, folk rock, pop (NOT top 40), jazz.
System Goals/Comments: Goal: Musical enjoyment, feeling of visiting with the musicians. With the final piece in place- the Naim Credos- I think we have a setup that will make us happy for a long, long time. The synergy of the Rega Mira and the Credos is quite something- great all-around musicality. The detail of the Bel Canto DAC really comes into its own.
System Strengths: Rhythm and musical pace, 'toe-tapping' quality, reasonably natural vocals and bass extension for size of speakers. Very dead background, music flows naturally from it. Feeling of 'place' is quite impressive on recordings with open feel.
System Weaknesses: Nothing major unless you're quite picky- no extreme low bass (but the room would likely be hard to condition for that, anyway), limited soundstage depth.
Video/HT System: None

Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Hiking, running, volunteer work @ local humane society (training shelter dogs), soccer.
