Dedrick's Wake up the Neighbors! System
Last Update: August 31, 2002 at 13:42:55 IP Address: 68.1.219.166
Amplifier: Primary: Adcom GFA-5802; Sec: EICO HF-87
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Adcom GFP-750
Speakers: Paradigm Studio 100 v2
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Adcom GCD-750
Turntable/Phono Stage: Denon DP-45F / EICO HF-85 (highly tweaked)
Other Source(s): Fisher Model 90-R AM/FM tuner (anyone got a matching mpx decoder?)
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Tara RSC Prime BiWire, Tara RSC Air3 XLR's for pre and CD, audioquest Side Winders on turntable, Monsters on Eico (out of $$)
Tweaks: Old T-shirts packed around CD player (in a cabinet). Believe you me, this made more difference than any tweak I've come up with to date. My Adcom stuff has poor resonance control.
Room Size (LxWxH): 20 x 20 x 15
Room Comments/Treatments: room is flat-topped A-frame with upstairs open on one end, spiral staircase (nice randomizer)
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): ALL -but rap(ok,i like some), opera, and new country (yuck) - old country, days of Dolly and Alabama and older is way cool (my first music was Dolly "Heartbreaker" on the ultra high end 8 track (I was 2, mom is a music lover)
System Goals/Comments: To have Philips SACD 1000, B&W Sig 800's, my own amp and preamp (currently in design and testing phases, hybrid 12AX7/MOSFET basis)
System Strengths: BASS, imaging, stound stage (almost 360 degrees!! My friends are always looking for the surround speakers. (there are none)
System Weaknesses: Sometimes I want more midrange. Starting in mid to lower midrange, the Adcom amp gets ever-so-slightly "leaner" the lower it goes. This doesn't happen with the EICO. Of course, I'm comparing mine to a system that has Naut. 800's and all Levinson elec. Might as well shoot for the stars, right?
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: old Zenith 27 inch TV HA!
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Yeah, right.
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): The 2 I mentioned before.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Onkyo 5 disc using Adcom CD player for external D/A, as the Onkyo analogue out is about as lifeless a sound as I've heard.
Other HT Gear: rebuilt RCA VCR. Skips commercials, sometimes.
Comments on HT System: The sound is great. Don't miss the surrounds. Center focus is better WITHOUT a center speaker. Don't NEED a sub. I sit too far back to really see the picture, though.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Fixing/restoring/tweaking audio gear. EE student at Texas Tech U
