Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Just about anything, but mostly 60-80's pop, rock, "alturnative", and folk. Moderate but probably equal amounts of classics (ie Senatra and the like), jazz, and classical.
System Goals/Comments: Given the love of all types of music by both my wife and I, we are a real challenge to match equipment to. These components are relatively neutral and the amp adds just a hint of warmth for the better. It does allot of things very well but probably not any partricular genre optimally.
System Strengths: Detail, imaging, realism. Vocals are amazing. When we *listen*, it's usually stuff with stong vocal performances.
System Weaknesses: Some components getting a bit on in age. Speakers are probably the weak link (getting old and tired) - they're a bit bass shy, but at times I wonder how anything else could sound any better than what I have. Their imaging is probably their best asset. Overall system is brutally acurate to the source, sometimes to a fault.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Mitsubishi 27" tube
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Pioneer VSX-D811S Reciever
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Phase Technology PC center channel
Boston Acoustic CR-6 Surrounds
Sources (DVD/VCR): Mistubishi HS-U56 Hi-Fi VCR
Echostar Dish Network 4700 IRD
ReplayTV 3060 PVR
Apex AD1500 DVD
Comments on HT System: The video side has never "moved" me as much as music and hence the relative low end setup. I use the reciever as a surround decoder and amp only - only video sources plug into it. The R/L pre-amp outputs feed my MF A3 integrated for the R/L speakers. The built in amps handle the center and rear surrounds. This is the best and least expensive way to "velcro" a surround system to a high quality music system that I know of. The center channel is different from the main speakers because when I bought a center my speakers aged so much that nothing from Boston matched either acoustically or aesthetically. After much searching, the Phase Technology center comes very close in both regards.
