atomix's Poor College Student System
Last Update: June 21, 2003 at 21:24:34 IP Address: 172.174.195.212
Amplifier: ASL Wave 8 Monoblocks
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Yamaha C-2A
Speakers: Axiom Audio M3Ti's
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: DVD player bastardized for CD player usage: JVC XV-SA70.
DAC: ART DI/O, basically stock for now...for now.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Kenwood KD-2055 Belt Drive, corian base with Grado Green, few little tweaks.

The Yamaha is my phono stage (please refer to system name for explaination.)

Other Source(s): Tuner: Kenwood KT-5500 with Magnum Dynalab Silver Ribbon antenna
Sound Blaster Live! for Lo-fi MP3 playback when I'm feeling very lazy, or not listening critically.

And a cheap VCR for TV sound.

Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Speaker Cable: Roll your own CAT5 Plenum, 10 pair conductors, braided.

Interconnects: For the components not worthy of good cabling, whatever I found in the box. For the better components, a few AR 'pro' series cables, and an IXOS verdi that I quite like.

Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Whatever it lands on....
Tweaks: Most equipment rests on a bubble wrap supported shelf, I need to fix that... :)
Room Comments/Treatments: In transition, will be a hole in the wall (9'x11'x10') soon enough
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Pretty varied...Classic Rock, little modern rock, good bit of Classical, especially Bach and Mozart. A few Jazz musicians, and the occasional light rock penchant.
System Goals/Comments: I've hobbled it together in, well 18 months now really, everything but the TV and VCR is new. What can I say, it's an addiction. Main goal is great sound on a budget, musicality being foremost, life-like presentation that is.
System Strengths: Quite happy with Analog playback, I love the Axioms, and the Wave's. Digital just got a lot better with the DI/O
System Weaknesses: No low frequencies, and I've pretty much given up on incorporating surround sound until I have more space.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Crappy newer Philips/Crap-in-a-Box 19" Color ;) TV
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: No more
Sources (DVD/VCR): JVC XV-SA70
Comments on HT System: Meh. Don't have enough money to spend to put together anything listenable now.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: GA Tech...that\'s my school, keeps me occupied.
