Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Hafler JP200
Speakers: Iconic i-Stonehenge with Altec 604k Duplex Speaker
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Adcom 700
Turntable/Phono Stage: Thorens TD165
Other Source(s): Nakamichi ZX681 Cassette Deck
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Monster Cable 8 awg, Monster Cable innerconnects.
Room Size (LxWxH): 22' x 14' x 10'
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Blues, Classic R&B, Bebop/Classic Jazz, Rock, Classical at times, everything else at times except techno, rap, Country.
System Goals/Comments: Obtain full presence and clarity, naturalness, I LIKE BIG WEST COAST SOUND! I have owned literally hundreds of pairs of speakers and don't care for wimpy stuff that some "audiophile snobs" would go for.
System Strengths: Good compromise between wife approval factor and meeting my big sound requirements.
System Weaknesses: I have owned amps with a little more definition but for the price it is hard to beat classic Hafler power and warmth (considering it is solid state). My tech has done some tweaks to the amp but I don't quite speak his language so I cannot clarify. Trying to achieve the best of both worlds, with audio and video requirements.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Working on that for the house. Am still determining which way to go. I have a Sony CRT projector for my Barn system but jury is still out on the living room.
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Adcom 830 processor. Center channel amp is a vintage Altec 771b biamp amplifier with David Jennings modification. .. Rear channels probably the same or maybe an Adcom multi channel. Sub amp is a QSC 1700
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Center channel Altec 604g monitor speaker. Subwoofer at this point is an Altec 18". We are expirementing with other 18" pro sound woofers because the Altec basket has some weaknesses. Overall it is flat to 20 hz though, so hard to ignore. Rear surround speakers are Proto-type, full range 12" Iconic i-607's.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Denon 3000
Comments on HT System: I am in the process of building this system, this is just what I have collected at the time of writing this up. I like big full sound and I just cannot get that sound with the wimpy sattelite monitor/sub combination that is in vogue with most snobby audiophile types. I like for them to bring their speakers over and do an A/B test which results in them being completely silent or muttering to themselves. Often the result is them taking their $15,000 little speakers home to put on Audiogon.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Family, Tae Kwon Do, golf, reading, my dogs, GTO's.
