lellis's First step on Hi-Fi Land? System
Last Update: January 15, 2005 at 18:47:43 IP Address: 200.157.35.3
Amplifier: Etalon Origo
Hungarian-made (!) 25W/8ohm s.s. integrated amp
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None
Speakers: Silverline Audio SR-11, 87dB/8ohm
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Marantz SA-8260
Turntable/Phono Stage: Gradiente RP-II/Dyn 10X5/Pro-ject PhonoBox
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Acoustic Zen
Satori spk cable/Matrix Ref. int./Tsunami power cord. They give a certain 'fullness' when reproducing piano and cello and a welcomed warmth to vocals, compared to Audioquest Bedrock spk/Coral int. I've tried before.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Airon steel/MDF rack
Airon spk stands
Phillips HT-1000
Tweaks: Daruma isolators under the SACD player
Room Size (LxWxH): 5,3m x 2,9m x 2,7m
Room Comments/Treatments: Bad room geometry, I know. Strong mode around 65Hz. No specific treatment, just drapes and rugs, still thinking about absorbers/diffusers to tame the modes and first reflections.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Classical('BBBs', Mozart Mahler...) Jazz (Coltrane/Miles, female singers, big bands...) and Rock (Stones, Zappa, King Crimson, Pixies...), plus a bit of everything else(Folk, brazilian music, etc)
System Goals/Comments: It is my first hi-fi setup, so I've just tried to get a natural, tonally neutral sound reproduction, with a fair amount of detail, decent dynamic range within a well-defined, open soundstage.
System Strengths: The midrange flows easily, vocals and acoustic instruments sounds 'right'. Clear, detailed, liquid highs.
System Weaknesses: There's no deep bass at all, given the 4' woofer, but midbass is OK. Not the best system for Mahler/Bruckner (but I keep listening!). Soundstage could get better, perhaps with room treatment and proper AC conditioning. Still searching for the best speaker placement
Video/HT System: None
