Time Out's Time Out of Mind System
Last Update: June 15, 2005 at 06:20:36 IP Address: 219.165.170.231
Amplifier: Berning ZH270 (with silver wire mod, cap upgrade, cryoed tubes, and Goldpoint ladder attenuator). Amp driven direct.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None
Speakers: Merlin VSM-M (in ruby heart red) with battery BAM
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Lindemann D680
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Stereovox SEI-600 interconnects (the new ones with round barrels), Cardas Golden Reverence 2.5 meter internal biwire speaker cables, mix of David Elrod, Shunyata, and JPS power cords
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Audio Magic Stealth (cryoed) power line conditioner, Lovan Sovereign Rack, just two levels, with two Lovan trisolators
Tweaks: Cryoed breaker, dedicated 20 amp line, cryoed Acme (I think) duplex outlet, lots of Safety Wave (similar to ERS) on breaker box and some cables to reduce RFI/EMI.
Room Size (LxWxH): 15.5 x 12 x 8.5
Room Comments/Treatments: Nothing special. Speakers are placed diagonally, some three feet out from the wall with big plants behind, oriental rug on floor in front of the speakers, paper-blind window treatment, lots of leather furniture.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Mainly Jazz, especially of the 50s and 60s , some classic rock, lots of female vocalists, British and American alternative/folk, some country, especially of the alternative/folk/rock variety such as Dave Alvin, Steve Earle, Wilco. My wife likes classical and jazz piano.
System Goals/Comments: 1) Resolved yet fleshed out sound that is pleasant to listen to for hours on end, 2) To be cost effective through simplicity by having just two main components (integrated amp and one box cdp) minimizes power cords and interconnects, rack levels, making it possible to buy quality with each of the items, and 3) to be an attractive system to look at as it has become the focal point of the living room (to my mind, not my wife's).
System Strengths: Nicely synergized system that is simple, sounds great, and looks terrific.
System Weaknesses: Room a bit small and could use some treatment in terms of a base trap and first reflection sidewall absorption/diffraction. Amp could be more reliable. Would love to have a turntable.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Sony 21 inch, nothing special
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Roksan Caspian integrated
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Pair of B&W CDM7SE
Sources (DVD/VCR): Modwright modifiied Panasonic DVD running into Modwright modified Perpetual Technologies P1-A and P3-A with Bybeed Monolithic Power Supply, and a cheapie Panasonic VCR
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Cycling, fine woodworking, swimming, my dog Jasper (a yellow Labrador Retriever)
