Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Lots of Jazz female vocals (Joni Mitchell; Diana Krall; Jane Monheit; Gretchen Lieberbrun; Karrin Allyson; Carla Cook; Tierney Sutton; Susan Werner; Bonnie Raitt) -- Evenings with the Beatles -- Queen occasionally -- and a host of eclectic stuff ranging from Steely Dan to the Mothers of Invention through Nat King Cole to Leon Russell and Sarah Brightman with a little Rachel Loshak and Quincy Jones thrown in. Did I neglect to mention Steve Tyrell, Chet Baker and Ry Cooder? alas.
System Goals/Comments: Maximizing what I can afford.Nearly optimized for what I have. The end reult is a box of interconnects cables that are not in the system. Still budget conscious for each piece. The cumulative on cables though -- well -- what was I thinking.
System Strengths: It's the mixture or combination of parts that equals something much greater than one would think. There is synergy among the pieces. The mods on the Amp and player are most useful. Finding the right tube combinations also makes a huge difference. The way this amp works with the Trentes is marvelous as well. Placement of the speakers is kind of critical I've noticed. There isn't a "sweet spot" but you do need to work with the positioning to get a broad area of full appreciation of the output. The soundstage is huge and deep -- really deep now with the Siemens tubes. Lots of fun and wonderful sounds.
System Weaknesses: The new roll in of the Seimens tubes at the front end put the next level of musicality into the system. even better than the Mullards I had been using. BTW -- DO NOT use Sylvanias in this application. They are good tubes but they get VERY bright in this rig. Bias setting also critical -- for me -- 38mV is where it's at. Just about dead center for the range of acceptable. Easy to change and fun to explore. Now I can just sit and listen to the music.
Video/HT System: Separate
