nighteyes0's Analog Central System
IP Address: 68.193.208.215 Last Update: November 04, 2018 at 06:45:00
Amplifier: Pass Labs X-250
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Aesthetix Janus preamp with phono stage.
Speakers: Vandersteen Quatro speakers. Best speaker I have heard. Very expressive in bringing low-level detail to the ear. Excellent imaging and huge soundstage. A great match for the Pass Labs X-250.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Cary CD 303 - 300 with Telefunken smooth plates.
Turntable/Phono Stage: VPI Aries 2 Black Knight with Graham Phantom tonearm. Benz Micro Wood L2 cart/ Pass Labs XONO.
Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood with Dynavector 20XH as back up TT.
Other Source(s): Magnum Dynalab FT-11 FM Tuner, Alessis Masterlink 9600 Digital Recorder
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Cardas Gollden Reference monowire speaker cables, HT Truth-Link, Cardas Golden Reference Phono cable and source ICs. Cardas Golden Cross pre to amp IC.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Balanced Power Technology BPT 2.5, HT AC, Synergistic Research AC Master Coupler, Salamander Synergy 40, Amp Stand.
Tweaks: Granite/wood composite amp stand. Gingko Cloud 9 pre-amp platform. Target wall mounted TT shelf with custom granite/MDF constrained layer material shelf. Ceramic cable elevators for speaker cables. slabs with DH cones and squares for components.
Room Size (LxWxH): 14' x 14' x 9'
Room Comments/Treatments: Using velvet curtain over double French doors and triple cell fabric blinds for window. Floor is carpeted and the walls have heavy wood bookcases. Added bass traps in front wall corners.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Acoustic Jazz, Classic Rock, Folk Rock, Classical, Female Vocals, Modern Rock, Alternative
System Goals/Comments: My goal is to reproduce faithfully what's on the source material in my room. The Vandersteen Quatros have gone a long way to increasing resolution, soundstage width and deph. Pinpont imaging brought increased clarity. Next upgrade will be the Benz LP Ebony cart, followed by an upgrade to the pre-amp, likely a Herron, VTL, Cary SLP 05 or VAC. TBD.
System Strengths: Warm sound, but still transparent to the source material. Balanced. Coherent. Very musical. Huge soundstage, precise imaging, very revealing system, but not harsh or bright at all. Just right. Synergies between components is increasing with every upgrade.
System Weaknesses: Could use more treatments in the room, but it sure does sound good as is. Not much I want to do, but, perhaps upgrade to Benz LP cart and possibly swap out the amp for the new ARC HD220 or the AR Reference 110. May be a better match for my speakers.
Video/HT System: None
