Rashman's Amati/Levinson System
Last Update: December 04, 2003 at 05:55:08 IP Address: 160.83.32.14
Amplifier: Mark Levinson 432
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Audio Research LS25 Mk 2
Speakers: Sonus Faber Amati Homage on custom granite plinths
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Dodson DA-217 Mk2D with DA-218 DAC Upgrade
Other Source(s): TEAC P-30 transport
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Balanced Valhalla interconnects/Audience Au24 speaker cable
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): PS 300 with Multiwave and PS Ultimate Outlet
PS, JPS and Synergistic powercords
Tweaks: Symposium Rollerblocks, Final Daruma Rollerblocks, tweeter focus rings, tubesox and tubehats, finitel elemente signiature stands and ceraballs
Room Size (LxWxH): 34 x 16 x 14
Room Comments/Treatments: Large, live room with wood floors/no carpeting, hence 2 Echobusters make almost no impact. Some slap echo and upper mid room resonances clearly audible
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): mostly rock/aternative/pop, some classical and a bit of jazz/vocal music
System Goals/Comments: I want a CD based full range (ie 20kHz-20Hz) system with an enjoyable musicality but not at the expense of transparency and resolution

At the end of the day, have given up on the usual audiophile adjectives, I just want it to sound 'nice' and be enjoyable

System Strengths: Incredible detail and resolution with a very analogue-style presentation ie no digititis, but not at the expense of sounding turgid
System Weaknesses: Speakers are not strictly neutral, but neither is my room. Bass rolls off quickly below 30Hz, and imaging whilst good is prone to a bit of wander
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Sony 28" CRT, soon to be replaced with Pineer 43" plasma
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: None
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): None
Sources (DVD/VCR): Cheap Pioneer fed into Dodson DAC
Other HT Gear: None
Comments on HT System: The perfect centre channel is no centre channel and speakers which create a palpable centre image. Subwoofers are not necessary with full range speakers and rear effects are just irritating. 2 channel is always better than surround for a given budget. Only with truly unlimited fun
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Increasing obsession with wine helping take the edge off the audio habit
