Pat D's Music-Living Room System
IP Address: 142.166.189.75 Last Update: December 20, 2011 at 20:52:16
Amplifier: Quad 606, 140 Watts
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Quad 44
Speakers: Paradigm Signature S2 Speakers, first version.

These are, on the whole, the best speakers I have ever had and among the best speakers I have ever heard.

As measured for Soundstage at the NRC, the voltage sensitivity is 88.5 dB with the minimum impedance under 4 ohms in the mid-bass. The useful low frequency extension is spec'd at 38 Hz (DIN), which is approximately -10 dB down.

Premier J-29 stands 28.5” high, bolted on to the speakers.

Paradigm PW-2500 subwoofer, placed in the right corner behind the right channel speaker.

Mirage LFX-1 Electronic Subwoofer Crossover, set at about 70 Hz.

Room Size (LxWxH): 21' x 28' x 8'
Room Comments/Treatments: The subwoofer sees a room about 21' by 28'. The listening area is about 14' X 14'. The equipment rack is placed in front of the back wall, with a large picture window with curtains on the right. An overstuffed sofa in front of the picture window on the right. The speakers have been placed on either side equipment racks. The right channel speaker fires over the arm of the sofa. The overstuffed listening chair, matching the sofa, is to the rear next to a three foot wall behind which is the stair well to the basement. The left of the area is open to the kitchen-dining room area.

Around Christmas time, the furniture will no doubt be moved and the speakers placed in front of the picture window on either side of the Christmas tree and facing toward the kitchen-dining area.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Classical, Opera, Jazz, World Music, some pop and folk.
System Goals/Comments: Smooth, accurate response, good imaging, deep bass response, adequate volume levels.
System Strengths: Smooth accurate response, excellent stereo imaging, deep bass response to below 20 Hz, more than adequate volume capabilities for my purposes.
System Weaknesses: So far, none that bother me, considering it's only a stereo system. It would not be for headbangers, but it will easily play louder than I need or want.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Panasonic TC-37LZ85 37" Class 1080 LCD HDTV
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Yamaha RX-V630 Receiver
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): PSB Stratus Mini Speakers

Sources (DVD/VCR): Apex AD-5131 DVD Player

Electrohome K-33 VCR

Rotel RCD-965BX CDP
Comments on HT System: The Stratus Minis are excellent, very easy to listen to for hours on end. Voices are very clear, music reproduction quite smooth.

The subwoofer had to fit in a small space behind a chair (WAF) and seems adequate for LF effects).

The new HDTV works great.
