powerste's Only One System
Last Update: June 28, 2004 at 12:53:11 IP Address: 68.169.26.88
Amplifier: Anthem Amp 1
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Anthem Pre 2L
Speakers: VonSchweikert VR-2
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Meridian 500 -> Meridian 566 20 bit
Turntable/Phono Stage: Cheapo JVC table and Pickering cartride ca. 1987. Not set up currently - no phono stage as of yet.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Spkr: Luminous Renaissance, 2 pair, bi-wired the hard way

Interconnect: DH Labs BL-1

Digital: Apogee WydeEye AES/EBU

Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): AudioPrism Foundation III

VTI A/V racks on the way

Room Size (LxWxH): 25 x 18 x 7 1/2
Room Comments/Treatments: A very chunky "L" The system is against an 18' wide front wall and I have ~ 24' sidewalls, one of which extends just past my listening spot. But I have only half a rear wall where the bottom of the L opens into the long portion. Speakers are 10' apart and 5' out into the room; couch is another 12' back from them.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Rock and roll (from back when it was good!)

Jambands (Dead, Allmans, Kimock: lots of high-quality bootlegs)

Listening to more and more jazz - really dig MJQ and Miles. Also more classical, mostly chamber but some symphonic and choral.

System Goals/Comments: Goal: The most accurate, involving reproduction I can get.

Comments:

-Need to get the phono going. Looking at a Bottlehead Seduction as an inexpensive phono pre I can live with for a while. Will be receiving a better lo/mid-fi table (Sherwood) soon but want to buy something real (~700 used) over the next year.

-Also want to experiment with different tubes

System Strengths: To these amateur ears, sounds well balanced and images pretty well
System Weaknesses: Would like to hear more air around instruments, see if I can get better imaging. Need to start picking up some better quality sourcre material.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: 27" Sony Wega
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: N/A
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): N/A
Sources (DVD/VCR): Panasonic DVD-RV31 player

Sony SLV-N50 stereo VCR

Other HT Gear: Scientific Atlanta cable box from the good folks at Adelphia (thanks for the Coax dig out!)
Comments on HT System: I should say SEMI-integrated with stereo:

-HiFi VCR feeds a preamp input

-DVD feeds DAC via TOSLink

-Cable box feeds DAC via Coax/RCA

Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Techno geek in a large software sales organization: I keep the sales people educated and honest on the technology that's over their heads.

Mostly I chase my 4 kids (ages 5 weeks to six years) around.

Also into cycling, hiking, skiing.

Enjoy international travel, which I get for free from work :)
