|System Goals/Comments:||I'm trying to build a non-fatiguing nearfield computer setup with a nice developed midrange. |
Pretty different philosophy than I would have for a main system. Here, I'm looking for a sound sweeter than the source material, so essentially looking to use the tube amp as a euphonic "filter," rather than a neutral presenter.
|System Strengths:||Detailed, but warm enough to soften-up bad source material (MP3s). Nice PRAT. Much more harmonically rich than I was previously able to accomplish without tubes. Not great for everything, but I'm really digging it for quiet late night music.|
|System Weaknesses:||Not really neutral, but that wasn't the goal here. Missing extended frequencies, particularly lacking in bass extension, although what is there has impact and musicality. Amp is noisy. Volume pot is pretty cheesy, thinking about replacing.|
