Last Update: January 25, 2005 at 10:46:26 IP Address: 82.32.21.99
Amplifier: Quad 405-2 & Quad 306
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Quad 34 (+ Fidele Audio MC Phono Stage upgrade)
Speakers: Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo3s
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Micromega Stage 4
Turntable/Phono Stage: Michell Focus One 'S'
SME 3009 Series II Imp.
Goldring Eroica LX
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Homemade speaker cable (CAT5 based TNT_Audio design) ... gone back to CableTalk 3.1 now.
Interconnects - collection of custom made oddities (working on a set of IBM Type 1 based interconnects)
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Alphason AD5/47.
Dedicated mains spur.
Room Comments/Treatments: Unfortunately my listening room isn't a dedicated auditorium but is as close as I can get in a two up two down.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Where to start .... anything from Jazz (mainly latin, cool, avant garde and darn right bizarre), funk, soul, 60s Garage Punk to prog & crout rock to punk. Lots of 60s & 70s sound libray stuff (mainly British, Italian and French)... god knows what else.
System Goals/Comments: Upgrade the Stage 4 to Stage 6.
Build a decent set of interconnects.
A little room treatment wouldn't go a miss.

Love the DIY side of Hi-Fi but have never lost sight of what the stuff is for .... enjoying music. My system suites me and I've no great ambitions to spend more cash trying to gain a 'better' sound and delve into the 'high-end'. Just want to make the best of what I've got .... it's amazing what a bit of tweaking can do.

System Strengths: Generally my system gives me a well-balanced (tonally) and solid sound. Depth and separation are superb. Most of all, it makes me smile.
System Weaknesses: The 405-2 can have a tendency to be a little too keen around the high-mids with certain recordings (when bi-wired).
Video/HT System: None
