Amplifier: Krell FPB600c, FPB300, FPB350M
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Meridian 861
Speakers: Dunlavy SC-Vs, SC-IIIs, HRCC - all with full-face Kevazinga finish.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Meridian 800
Turntable/Phono Stage: none
Other Source(s): Denon tuner, Panasonic DAT recorder
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Monster 2.2s / Dunlavy ULC Balanced Reference, Illuminati D60, BetterCables Silver Serpents, Kimber Silver Streak (unbalanced)
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Component rack, amp stand, HRCC/display stand by Billy Bags.
Power conditioning (for everything) soon to be courtesy a pair of Shunyata Research Hydras. For now, the sources & display are powered via a Tice Power Block III.
Tweaks: none yet
Room Size (LxWxH): 19' x 12' x 8'
Room Comments/Treatments: Apart from large wool area rugs on the floor and walls, none. Careful experimentation with speaker placement continues to yield performance improvements.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Pretty much anything with the exceptions of Hip-Hop/Rap, Country Western, & Teen Pop. While some great sounding productions come out of these genres ... it's just not my scene.
System Goals/Comments: I work in a lot of different recording studios around the world, the control rooms of which each have drastically differing acoustic signatures in spite of the equipment & design considerations they may share. For a long time I've wanted a reference-quality system in my home on which I can reliably judge, for better or worse, the quality of my own work and that of the competition's. Excellent HT performance was a secondary but important consideration. After many years and almost as many system incarnations, I think I've finally nailed it. The Hydras ought to be an exciting upgrade, and as finances permit, I think I'd like to experiment with Krell FPB monoblocks all around, and maybe some different speaker cables.
System Strengths: Amazing dynamics, speed, imaging, resolution, and overall sense of authority, even at low to moderate listening levels - important for harmonious apartment life.
System Weaknesses: My room. Not so much the small size of it (which turned out NOT to be the problem for the SC-Vs I feared it might be), but rather the fact that it's in an apartment building, with neighbors on all sides. I'll need to buy/build a house before I can really let this system off of its leash.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: NEC 42MP1 plasma display fed via a Faroudja Native Rate video scaler.
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: as above
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): as above, & no sub
Sources (DVD/VCR): as above, plus Panasonic LD player and Toshiba VCR
Other HT Gear: Monster M1000V & BetterCables Silver Serpent video interconnects
Comments on HT System: This is a music-first system, but its HT performance - even without a subwoofer - is great.
