Skooks's Skooks' System System
Last Update: March 22, 2005 at 15:13:42 IP Address: 66.32.11.167
Amplifier: Audio Research VSi55 Integrated Amp.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None — Integrated.
Speakers: Pair DynAudio Audience 52SE monitor speakers on DynAudio stands filled with lead/sand.
Von Schweikert VR-S/1 Subwoofer.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Philips DVD 963SA SACD/CD audio & DVD video player modified by Reference Audio Mods.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Speaker cables — Lowes 6 guage copper wire terminated by Vampire with their best spades.
Interconnect — custom made with Audio Consulting 24 AWG silver wire inside a cotton sleeve with Eichmann Copper RCA Phono Plugs.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): (2) APS Line Conditioners
Tweaks: CD stand is a 4" thick maple block sitting on a Sound Anchor dampened amp stand with spikes. 2" solid brass spikes are used under the CD player, and brass weights on top. KT-88 tubes replace the 6550 tubes in the ARC VSi55 integrated amp. This produced a warmer midrange, as well as better defined bass.
Room Size (LxWxH): 15' x 18' x 11'
Room Comments/Treatments: Room is built in the attic with sloping ceiling and odd angles. The floor is 2 layers of 5/8" plywood covered with carpet over pad. Walls and ceiling are 5/8" sheetrock. Heavy draw curtain covers TV screen (which is built into a wall cavity) when listening to music.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Classical, Country, Pop, Jazz, light Rock, Spiritual
System Goals/Comments: To have an outstanding 2 channel music and video system without breaking the bank.
System Strengths: Outstanding soundstage with very natural portrayals of vocals and instruments. The dynamics are awesome with very quick and defined bass response.
System Weaknesses: 36" HDTV has great picture quality, but is a little small... I would like to have about twice the size in a plasma model.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Toshiba 36" Cinema Series High Definition TV.
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Sony SAT-HD200 High Definition Digital TV Satellite Receiver.
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Same as the audio system.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Same as the audio system.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Retired airline captain and check airman.
Other hobbies: Digital photography and Mac computers.
