smollett's Garage System
IP Address: 67.81.168.100 Last Update: February 19, 2011 at 13:09:24
Amplifier: Fisher 500-C Receiver with all original driver and radio tubes and two pair of matched NOS Sylvania 7591As
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None
Speakers: Two Janszen Z-400 Electrostatic speakers, mounted on wooden legs with brass floor caps. Recently saved from oblivion when the previous owner put them out on the curb for trash removal. New speaker wires, one patched power cord, some lemon oil, and they look and sound pleasing and refined.

Now unplugged, two legendary UltraPhonics - some 3' tall, Chinese-made, three-way, early 1990's mdf speaker, with five junky drivers (I got them for free)
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Magnavox CDB650
Other Source(s): Pioneer TX-930 FM/AM Tuner - a vast improvement over the TX-410, now relegated to the basement storeroom.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Radio Shack interconnects

Sound King 16-gauge speaker wire

Fanfare FM-2G antenna or Radio Shack FM-6 Yagi with Radio Shack RG-6 Coaxial cable and 75-300 ohm transformers
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Rubbermaid step stools for the Ultraphonic speakers

WalMart equipment rack
Tweaks: Original destroyed UltraPhonics woofers replaced with Dayton Audio 15' ones.
Room Size (LxWxH): 23 x 23 x 9
Room Comments/Treatments: None - cinder block, poured concrete floor, wooden garage doors, 1960 T-Bird, 5.0 Mustang
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Classical, Jazz, English/Scottish, and college radio selections
System Goals/Comments: Provide much better and louder sound than a boom box
System Strengths: Accomplishes all of the above for a modest amount of money
System Weaknesses: The recently acquired Janszens make the sound much smoother and easier on the ears than the dreadful UltraPhonics. In any event, I'm working on cars, exercising, or doing chores when it's on.
Video/HT System: None
