dean man jim's music room System
IP Address: 24.117.255.118 Last Update: July 23, 2020 at 17:44:38
Amplifier: Audiomat Prelude Reference. 30 WPC push-pull tube integrated. SED EL-34 output tubes; passive preamp section using vintage Sylvania JHS 12AX7 as drivers. Grover Huffman power cord.

Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None.
Speakers: JM Reynaud Bliss, atop JM Reynaud "Magic Stands." After experimenting with speaker placement I've come to the conclusion that they can benefit from being relatively close to the wall behind them. In this case, 24" from the wall to the front of the baffles.

Mirage MS12 subwoofers (pair). These subwoofers blend seamlessly with the JMR speakers and provide musical and spacial content from about 45 hz down to the mid-20s.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: MHZS CD 66F with Mullard 12AX7 tubes and an Audience Power Chord.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Thorens TD-150 Mk II, restored/tweaked and modestly modified. DIY power cord.

George Wright WPP100C phono stage (vintage Amperex, RCA and Tung-Sol tubes). Power supply was rebuilt in 2017.

Cartridges include some vintage ones purchased NOS -- Astatic MF-100; a surprising Goldring 800 with a Quad stylus; Empire 1000 ZE/X, 600 LAC, 888TE; Stanton 6XX bodies with an assortment of styli; a Shure M75EJ Type 2; a few others; and my only "current" cartridge, a wood-bodied / Soundsmith-ed Denon DL103.

Cinemag 3440a 1:36 SUT.

Backup phono stage is a former "stereofile class bee" unit, a Musical Fidelity XLPS V3. Surprisingly good but not at all close to the George Wright.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Discovery 1-2-3 speaker cables. Grover Huffman interconnects on the 'table and phono stage; Mogami 2549 with Valab locking copper plugs on the CD player.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): System is fed by a pair of Hubbell HBL5362 industrial grade wall outlets. DIY walnut rack and LP shelves.
Tweaks: Various footers--Herbie's Audio Lab footers under Wright gain and power supply units; very old mahogany blocks under the Audiomat; cherry blocks and a mahogany slab under the CD player. Turntable sits on an Ikea Lack table top, atop A&M Hardware wall brackets that hang above the rack.
Room Size (LxWxH): 19 x 14 x 9
Room Comments/Treatments: Drapes and woven shades behind speakers. Framed art and photos on walls throughout the listening area. Maple floors with wool area rugs and a few floor plants. It's a 'living' room in a Cape Cod style house that opens into the dining room. The resulting space is separated from adjoining areas via swinging doors.

The music collection and playback system share space with a reading area and the piano our family uses.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Many types of acoustic and electric music. +/- 1600 LPs and +/- 900 CDs.
System Goals/Comments: A simple system that provides engaging and reasonably full-range sound with good flow, rhythm, dynamics, and musical nuance. I want to enjoy long listening sessions (when there's time) with no listening fatigue.

System Strengths: It's actually meeting my goals.

The Audiomat amp and Reynaud speakers have a well deserved reputation for synergy.
System Weaknesses: Compromises abound. Nonetheless its compromises do not detract from my musical goals or enjoyment.
Video/HT System: None
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: I enjoy sharing my family's interests, family travel, woodworking, chess, reading; attending concerts, poetry readings, and art galleries...gardening...time with friends...and my vintage BMW auto.
