NigelBKK 's 1988 Vintage Stereo System
Last Update: February 03, 2006 at 01:11:34 IP Address: 203.144.143.3
Amplifier: A handmade Pre/power combo with 500w in to 1 ohm, originally driving a pair of Maggies in the UK
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Pert of the above designed system. MOTI - monsters of the Id, who killed the Krell in a single day. The designer had a sense of fun!
Speakers: 1988 Magnepan IIIa, refurbished at the factory 2002 and still as new. no modifications
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: A 1988 vintage Sony CDP 227ESD, the poor mans Esprit model player of the day.
Turntable/Phono Stage: nil
Other Source(s): Sacrelidge, but I connect this to my trusty iPod!
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Linn K20 cable with additional solid core feed to take out the sibilance on the old Gales... still in place with the Maggies but may remove it.
Room Size (LxWxH): 20ft x 18ft x 8ft
Room Comments/Treatments: This is a tiled floor room with windows on 3 sides. Heavy drapes behind the Maggies when in use and to protect against the sun.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Ambient, Acoustic and Jazz. Enjoying some Japanese origin Ecousic sounds via iTunes store.
System Goals/Comments: I think an update on the source next, but likely also a teakwood stand for the components and a selection of discs.
System Strengths: That all around Maggie sound! Even bass through to trebble and beyond.
System Weaknesses: Sorry... nothing!
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Sharp PG15s
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Yamahe surround amp
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Yamaha, all in one processor and amp (37 watts! total) but superb for the bedroom and DVD watching. The movie is the fun, not a precise soundstage.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Denon 1920 DVD, driving Sharp through component output. Sharp too old to have HDCP!
Other HT Gear: Several Apple macs which serve as portable DVD and music machines.
Comments on HT System: I'd like to get my old Gale 220s in to the system as main L+R so need some cabling work one weekend.
