Jacques's La hifi de Jacques System
Last Update: September 17, 2006 at 10:29:15 IP Address: 81.56.144.181
Amplifier: Tri-amped with Linkwitz-Riley filters based active crossover. Active crossover, bass amp and mid amp are DSDIY (design, simulate & do it yourself). Treble amp is AM50, Atoll.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): No. Just remote-commanded switches and attenuator. DSDIY.

Separated phono preamp, DSDIY

Speakers: out of age Cabasse boxes with new speakers (bass & medium 25cm and 10.5cm Audax aerogel, tweeter ribbon Aurus Fantum g3si). Skrs directly connected to amps, no passive crossover.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Micromega. Less and less used as all the CDs are stored on the NAS
Turntable/Phono Stage: Modded Marantz 6300
Other Source(s): MOTU 628 firewire audio interface, modded.

All CDs now on a NAS 1Tbytes, accessible from iTunes.

Tandberg 300x, Revox A77, Nagra IVS for tapes.

Keyboard.

Satellite tuner (Schneider)

Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Spkr cable is 4mm, 2.5mm and 1.5 twisted litz wire. Bass the heaviest, treble the thinnest.Use of speakon connectors.

Interconnect is based onto Vandamme 268 starquad wire. All I/O in system are balanced. Phono preamp is inside the table, so no phono IC.

Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Special line from entrance box, with lightning protection on 2 levels. I used a Topaz Line 2 power conditionner (tapped transformer with extremely high common mode noise rejection), but was found useless.
Tweaks: The system is a tweak by itself!
Room Size (LxWxH): 9m x 4m x 2.70m
Room Comments/Treatments: Room is geometrically very complicated, with a smaller extension on its side. Many resonance modes, but no high Q
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): classic, organ, piano, Debussy and beginning 20th. Middle age and Renaissance. Reggae, african, afro beat. My own music.
System Goals/Comments: Lacks time to improve, and to spend as many hours as I should wish.

Will change soon the amps for low power DDSIY ones.

System Strengths: All advantages of active xover triamped systems: extrem firm drive of speakers with each its own PA. Peaks are not distorted as long as the average level is not itself clipping. No audible directivity accidents. Very small susceptibility to mains variations and EMI/RFI
System Weaknesses: My wife has problems setting it up.

The room is not at all ideal: too small, to many resonances modes, even well damped.

Video/HT System: None
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: EE
