Amplifier: Pass XA 200 monoblocks -- pure class A 200 watts into 8/4/2 ohms
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Audio Research Ref2 MKII
Speakers: Dynaudio Master Evidence (93db efficient)
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: dCS Stack: Verdi CD/SACD Transport, Purcell 24/192 DSD Digital Upsampler, Elgar Plus 24/192 DAC with IEEE 1394 interface
Turntable/Phono Stage: VPI Aries Extended Base with hot-rodded JMW 12.5 arm; Lyra Helikon .35mv MC cartridge; phono stage TBD, phono cable: Hovland Music Groove 2 single-ended
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Synergistic Research Designer's Reference Squared w/Active Shielding Master Control Center - balanced throughout
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Custom Billy Bags Pro Stand sand-filled; 4 dedicated 20 amp 10 gauge Romex homeruns to main breaker panel all on same phase (1 analogue front-end, 1 digital front-end, 1 line each per monoblock) using Porter Ports cryo outlets.
Tweaks: Homemade isolation platforms constructed of granite slab & 2 layers of acrylic each separated by rubber/cork/rubber isolation blocks
Room Size (LxWxH): 24.8 x 19.0 x 11.0
Room Comments/Treatments: Drapes over windows, other like corner bass traps TBD pending WAF
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): classical, jazz, rock, some world/ambient, with a small dash of rap/hip hop
System Goals/Comments: (1) to be able to create the physical palpability of a live concert and pressurize a large room with '0' distortion; (2) huge soundstage with multi-depth layers; (3) warm and enveloping tonal characteristic with bloom and decay -- willing to trade-off that last bit of delineation that some (more clinical) SS equipment offers for a more musical, holistic experience.
System Strengths: Virtually unlimited dynamics without distortion @ 112db at which point these 200W amps are tapped out and so are your ears. The Master Evidence will run uncompressed to 123db theoretically and I believe it.
System Weaknesses: More the room at this point than anything else. Rectangular size is good, but I need to do some acoustic analysis of room nodes and then treat them (with permission).
Video/HT System: None
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Racing Porsches; Playing harmonica and drums; Management consultant by trade
