| VonFiebke's Glow in the dark. System | |
| IP Address: 149.39.208.10 | Last Update: September 07, 2007 at 09:24:31 |
| Amplifier: | Dynaco Stereo 70. Brown cage, un-modified with the exception of newer caps, etc. |
| Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): | Audio Experience Symphonies tube pre. This isn't vintage, but it is an amazing little pre-amp, and a perfect match to the Stereo 70. The balance controls were bi-passed by the previous owner, and that's the only mod as far as I know. |
| Speakers: | Klipsch KG2 or KLH 17s. |
| Sources: | |
| CD Player/DAC: | Sony CDR. I record off of vinyl with it for the car, and it's good enough as this system is used mostly for playing vinyl. |
| Turntable/Phono Stage: | Linn Axis with Bellari tube pre-amp. |
| Other Source(s): | Eiko Cortina tuner. |
| Other Accessories/Room/Misc.: | |
| Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | Thick, but nothing special. Fine-braided copper, about 12 guage I believe. Decent interconnects. |
| Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): | Everything goes into a pretty substantial surge protector...also bought used, at a business liquidation sale. Why buy new? |
| Tweaks: | Rolled a bunch of tubes if that counts. KG2s have a unique "salvation army" patina to their finish. |
| Room Size (LxWxH): | Loft. x Loft. x high. |
| Room Comments/Treatments: | Upstairs in a loft. Sound reflection off of ceiling sometimes helps, sometimes hurts. But I can listen in bed. The bouncy loft really drives the TT nuts, but I rent so can't really lodge of shelf into the wall..which is actually the ceiling up here. |
| Music Preferences and Comments: | |
| Music Used (Genre/Selections): | Rock. Jazz. Indie. Classical. Funk. 60's/70's soul. Folk. Bluegrass. You name it. |
| System Goals/Comments: | I don't want to obsess over it..just want great sound, which it achieves. I'm quite happy with it. |
| System Strengths: | It has a lot of what I suppose is called synergy. Everything seems to get along with everything else. It really sounds good, everything sounds natural and the soundstage is HUGE. |
| System Weaknesses: | Turntable needs better isolation. The room is not ideal. Could stand to buy some better interconnects. |
| Video/HT System: Separate | |
| TV/Projector: | HP 42" Plasma. |
| Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: | Yamaha HT receiver. Not the top of the line but works well for what I'm using it for. |
| Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): | Vintage Genesis Physics Model 1s for center and rear, Genesis model 10s for left and right mains. Velodyne sub. |
| Sources (DVD/VCR): | Samsung DVD/SACD etc player running DVI to TV and optical to Receiver. |
| Other HT Gear: | 60's Danish modern sofa to sit on, and an old Zenith danish modern console stereo in use as the cabinet and TV stand. Completes the, um, vintage feel of the place. |
| Comments on HT System: | I replaced NHT speakers the Genesis Physics, and the differece was night and day. NHT speakers are overrated. |
| Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: | Musician/Guitarist/Vocalist. Home-recording. History/Political discussion. Film. Ship models. Hiking. |
