Mike N.'s Main System
Last Update: February 15, 2004 at 16:44:05 IP Address: 207.53.231.175
Amplifier: Cary 572SE Mk.II monoblocks - NOS tubes in input, driver and rectifier. Biggest difference in replacing the 6SL7's
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): AE-3 DHJ version with NOS tubes (huge difference) and headphone output
Speakers: Soliloquy 5.3's
Sennheiser HD600 headphones
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Sony XA777ES SACD/CD player
Turntable/Phono Stage: none
Other Source(s): Sansui TU-517 tuner
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: MIT Terminator 2 biwire SC
MIT T2 (amps) & T3 (sources) IC's
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Amps on my hearth, all else in cabinet
Tweaks: Rotate ~10 different kinds of 6SN7 tubes in preamp. Rotate a few NOS rectifier, driver and input tubes in amps
Room Size (LxWxH): 36+ x 18 x 9
Room Comments/Treatments: A wall of windows makes room less than dead. No curtains yet because I like the view.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz(only old), Blues(mostly old), and Rock/Pop(Allman Bros, Cowboy Junkies, Dire Straits, Joan Armatrading, Hendrix, Neil Young, Stones, LZ...)
System Goals/Comments: This is my first SET setup. I'm looking for non-fatiguing sound even at moderate volumes, and the best possible reproduction of the female voice.
System Strengths: Closer to my goals than any past system.
System Weaknesses: Room treatment would be nice, but too ugly
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Philips 32"
Sources (DVD/VCR): stereo VCR and Toshiba DVD carousel
Comments on HT System: I hate television.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Woodworking is my hobby (too bad it's not my occupation - not enough $ in it)
