joeljoel1947's Totally Transmission Line Surround Rig *pic* System
IP Address: 76.234.145.91 Last Update: December 29, 2009 at 19:34:07
Amplifier: Amplifiers are Aragon 8008ST (runs mains 200 wattsx2) and Acurus A200 (Runs center and rears 200 wattsx3).

Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Threshold FET-10 for stereo material. Rotel RSP-1066 processor/preamp for surround sound material (discrete or otherwise!).
Speakers: **See link to pic below** 5 matched transmission line sats. DIY designs. Hiquphon OW/2 tweeter and Vifa P17 woofer connected via 1st order series filter (I'm after time/phase coherence). Mains also use a Vifa P21 woofer in a transmission line enclosure (so mains are 3-ways connected 1st order series). Subwoofer is a Fried Coffin Model T transmission line stereo subwoofer using two custom Fried KEF 10" drivers which are driven by two dedicated 150 watt plate amps. The coffin sub is room corrected with a Behringer 1124.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Pioneer Elite 45a for multichannel SACD/DVD-A.
Califonia Audio Labs Icon 2 w/Powerboss HDCD.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Music Hall MMF-5 w/Ortofon 540 mk.2 cart. Project Speed box 2. Phono stage is a tube Bellari VP129.
Other Source(s): Otari MX-5050 B3 open reel deck (current!). 2/4 track playback up to 15 ips. And also an Otari MX-5050 B2 open reel deck resides here. Tape Project and master tapes in use!
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Monster/Audioquest/Acoustic Research
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Adcom ACE 515 Power enhancer/sequencer. Behringer 1124 parametric EQ used on the coffin sub to tame room nodes.

4" LCD screen to navigate DVD-A and DVD concert discs.
Tweaks: Not a tweak guy so much.
Room Size (LxWxH): 16 x 16 x 8
Room Comments/Treatments: It's a little smaller then I'd like for a 5.2 (I say .2 because the coffin sub is a stereo subwoofer but its technically 5.1!) channel surround setup, but not too bad. Carpeted concrete floors; concrete walls with drywall/insulation. Treatments are acoustical foam in various places.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Everything except country and rap!
System Goals/Comments: The goal was to create a setup dedicated for music multichannel formats such as SACD and DVD-A and Blu-Ray audio. Secondary goal was to create state of the art loudspeakers at a reasonable cost. The five time/phase correct transmission line satellites are orientated in a typical surround sound fashion. Custom transmission line subs are in use under the mains. All the bass room modes are corrected via the Behringer parametric EQ. In room response in conjunction with the transmission line coffin subwoofer is well below 20Hz.
System Strengths: Between the two 8" Vifas on the subs in the mains and the two 10" vintage (and famous!) Kef drivers in the Coffin, bass is a real strength. Flat to below the limits of my test equipment (20Hz). Soundstaging, clarity, and a "you are there" feel to this system. Listening to LP's and open reels in DTS Neo 6:Music or DPL2x surround is a trip too!
System Weaknesses: More room would certainly be nice, but it fits very well actually.
Video/HT System: None
TV/Projector: 4.5" LCD screen to navigate DVD-A and setup screens.
