BillyBenBilly's A Very Modest But Musical System System
IP Address: 65.28.247.144 Last Update: July 22, 2011 at 19:21:40
Amplifier: Audio Note Kit-4, Marantz 2230 receiver, Allied/Knight EL-84 integrated.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Cary SLP-70
Speakers: Audio Note E/SPx
Magnepan 2.6R
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Sony Play Station SCPH 1001 (Don't laugh, it bettered my Theta/ Audio Note DAC combo, my tricked out AH Tjobe w/ NOS tubes, Onix xcd-88 w/ Ack! dac, and a few other cd players)
Turntable/Phono Stage: Thorens TD-125 w/ old Grado TLZ cart.
Cary SLP-70 phono stage w/ Mullard 4004 tubes.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Audio Note AN-V Interconnects
Goertz copper speaker cables
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Monster HTS 2500 PC (Really makes a difference w/ the Sony and Thorens)
Audio Technica ATH AD-700 Headphones
Room Comments/Treatments: None. Just a comfy couch,a few chairs, rack of books and lps behind the system. Room is pretty much open to the kitchen on the back end and has a vaulted ceiling. Maybe 400 sq feet in area.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Acoustic jazz from the 50's to contemporary. Miles, Burrell, Jim Hall, Coltrane, etc.
60's Rock and Roll and Pop. Folk (AKA "World Music"). Classical. I like good music any period, any genre, anytime!)
System Goals/Comments: A system that played the most music, most musically.
System Strengths: Musical, natural, and relaxing. You can forget about the system, the audiophile madness, and just enjoy the music.
System Weaknesses: It's impossible for me to be objective. If you're looking for all the typical audiophile thrills, look elsewhere. Soundstage and imaging were not a priority and are not prominent strengths of the system.
Video/HT System: None
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Playing guitar/mandolin. Family time, walking, meditation.
