Amplifier: Atma-Sphere M60 mkII.2
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Atma-Shere MP-3
Speakers: QUAD ESL57, restored using Wayne Piquet panels
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Proceed MRC-300
Turntable/Phono Stage: Thorens TD124 / SME 3012 with 1) Ortofon SPU Royal GM or 2) STAX CP-Y / ECP1 electrostatic cartridge
Other Source(s): Sansui TU-919 tuner
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: mogami interconnects
homemade speaker cable
Room Comments/Treatments: Room has wooden floor and straw/plaster ceiling, which gives a very good acoustical behavior. Surprisingly even response from top to bottom, so little coloration. Room behavior is same for both speakers, giving a very stabile stereo image.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Classical, Opera, 20th century modern music,
Jazz, traditional Japanese music, Gamelan, Ragas and other non-western classical music
System Goals/Comments: Natural rendering of human voice and instrumental timbre;
Deep but, more importantly, transparent and uncolored bass;
Wide and deep soundstage, with good instrument separation
System Strengths: I feel that my goals are well achieved, it took twenty years or so to get there...
System Weaknesses: on the loudest passages in piano music, the SPU tends to mistrack somewhat
Video/HT System: None
