Tom V.'s Main System System
Last Update: August 29, 2006 at 13:30:17 IP Address: 63.145.5.18
Amplifier: Conrad Johnson MF2100
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Rogue Audio Model 66 Magnum
Source Components HRS 2
Speakers: JM Reynaud Twin Signatures
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Denon DCM560
Turntable/Phono Stage: Luxman PD-264
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Audioquest GR8
Homegrown Audio Silver Lace from cd player to pre and from preamp to HRS; Homegrown Audio Super Silver from HRS to amp
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Salamander Archetype 3.0 Rack (in hazelnut)
Tweaks: Use of either CIFTE 12AU7s or various E80CC tubes to greatly enhance Rogue -- makes it a much more full sound with much more body; also, Magnum modifications done by Mark O'Brien to Rogue made it more transparent, faster, with greater high and low frequency extension
Room Size (LxWxH): 17 x 13 x 9
Room Comments/Treatments: Odd room situation: the speakers sit along the short wall of a 17' x 13' room, which has an 8' doorway leading to a 13 x 13 x 13 room; even with carpeting in the listening area, and soft, plush furniture, with the cube dimensions there is too much low frequency 'room boom'
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): All types, but mainly jazz/big band, soft rock
System Goals/Comments: To build a satisfying system at a reasonable price
System Strengths: Very musical with excellent resolution; new speakers integrate well with difficult room acoustics to provide a well balanced system with deep tight bass, magical clean midrange, and non-fatiguing highs;Excellent low level resolution and tone; deep and wide soundstage with good imaging
System Weaknesses: At high volumes, speakers sound a bit compressed; room is too damn small for proper speaker placement with allowance for use for the rest of the family
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Magnavox
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Carver HTR 880
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Klipsch KG2.5; Klipsch KSB1.1; Klipsch center channel (can't remember particular model)
Sources (DVD/VCR): Samsung VCR; Pioneer DVD-434; Direct TV satellite system
Comments on HT System: Cheap, but effective for what we use it for
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Reading, hunting, shooting sporting clays
