Aurelio S.'s Sex & the Married Man System
Last Update: December 17, 2001 at 07:50:21 IP Address: 199.228.142.2
Amplifier: Threshold T-200
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Audio Research Corp LS1
Speakers: Martin-Logan SL3
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: CAL CL-10
Turntable/Phono Stage: None
Other Source(s): None
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Interconnects by NBS. Speaker cables are double runs of Audioquest Indigo Blue.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Audio Power conditioner and Lovan Classic audio rack.
Tweaks: Dedicated listening room. Contains 5'x5'x4" foam cushion inserts on side walls and behind the speakers. Bookshelf behind listening chair.
Room Size (LxWxH): 12 x 17 x 5-8
Room Comments/Treatments: If I didn't have a dedicated listening room, wife would NEVER allow the foam cushions! ;)
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Whatever suits my mood at the moment. Usually lean toward female vocals, all styles of blues, all styles of jazz, new and classic rock with some bluegrass, folk and west Texas country western thrown in!
System Goals/Comments: 1) Musicality.
2) Rhythm and pace.
3) Transparency & neutrality.
System Strengths: Speakers are extremely fast providing amazing rhythm and pace. Listeners can't help snapping their fingers and tapping their toes to the music! The ARC LS1 preamp contains two line level inputs: The standard connection and a "Direct Gain" input which bypasses everything except the attenuator and tube output stage. IMHO, the ARC LS1 is the most transparent and cleanest control amplifier I'v ever heard when using the latter.
System Weaknesses: My room. It's too small for the SL3. It's in the top floor of a bungalow style home with knee walls starting at 5 ft and peaking at 8 ft. Trying to convince wife to let me move it into larger front room - but may have to sacrifice the treatments.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Magnavox
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: RCA
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): RCA
Sources (DVD/VCR): Technics DVD A10
Other HT Gear: None
Comments on HT System: RCA all-in-one-box purchased from Radio Shack. System delivers 700 total watts (200 to a dedicated s/w and 100 per each of 5 channels). HT is not important to me at the moment so this does the job.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Music is my passion, not high-end audio. HE audio is simply the means to an end. Also enjoy cooking, roasting my own coffee and good conversation (I am Italian, after all).
