nobody's main System
IP Address: Last Update: June 25, 2018 at 09:10:13
Amplifier: Yamaha A-S500 powering A/3s and a Hafler XL-280 powering the subwoofer after a passive external crossover.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None
Speakers: Fried A3s & Fried Subwoofer
CD Player/DAC: Pioneer Elite DV-49AV SACD/DVD-Audio/CD player
Turntable/Phono Stage: Rek-O-Kut N34H with upgraded Esoteric Sound motor and custom plinth, Cartridge is a Stanton 680SL, using the phono stage in the Yamaha. Also have a selection of needles for playing old 45s, 78s, mono records, etc...
Other Source(s): Rotel RT-940AX Tuner, a Nakamichi RX-505 cassette deck, a TEAC A-3300SX reel-to-reel, and a Soundblaster DAC hooked to a tape loop for digitizing from the other sources and occasionally playing streams from my computer.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Eh, nothing special.
Tweaks: Nothing much although I did do some alterations including a lot of damping to the base of the Dual, refinished the veneer and added spikes to the bottom. Also using an aftermarket headshell with a different (I think better) type of connection system from the original.
Room Comments/Treatments: Nothing in particular, pretty decent mix of hard and soft surfaces.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): All types

I grew up on my dad's oldies and my punk, learned to love jazz, always had a soft spot for classical, listen to some rap and reggae as well as a sprinkling of world music and electronic stuff. I'm developing a more recent appreciation for a lot of noise and experimental music.

Did I leave anything out?
System Goals/Comments: Since I listen to a wide variety of music, I need a balanced system that can do a little bit of everything.

I'm also big on the turntable being user friendly since I am prone to spinning records while I work around the house and all, so I really like the automatic table so it shuts off at the end of normal records or when I want to be wandering around with a stack of 78s or 45s dropping.
System Strengths: Detailed without being too bright and plenty of low extension.
System Weaknesses: Nothing I'm unhappy with for now, the usual occasionally needing to tighten something here or there with a lot of older gear.
Video/HT System: None
