Ferrstein's Balanced Acoustat System System
IP Address: 71.158.98.130 Last Update: January 22, 2010 at 05:21:36
Amplifier: A Quartet of Acoustat Servo monoblock amps, running in a balanced configuration (One monoblock running the + phase into the front stators, and another monoblock running the - phase into the rear stators). These were modded with parts from Analogue Associates in Oklahoma City.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): BAT VK-42se with Dynamicap output caps and circuit board damping.
Speakers: Acoustat Monitor 4s, running in balanced configuration with four Acoustat Servo monoblock amps.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Changes daily - I'm not much of a fan of digital. I really like my TADAC, though.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Linn LP12 fully loaded including a Kloneparts SC aluminum subchassis driving an Ayre P5xe with a heavily modified power supply and updated circuit components.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Moon Audio custom turntable lead, AR Master series elsewhere.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Audience Adept Response AR6, a couple AR1ps, and a bunch of Audience Powerchords.
Tweaks: Symposium rollerballs under the speakers. This was a challenge, but was very much worth it.
Room Size (LxWxH): 11 x 17 x 7.5
Room Comments/Treatments: Extensive Owens-Corning 705 FRK bass traps.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Folk, rock, and pop.
System Goals/Comments: I like a big soundstage with a whole lotta detail.
System Strengths: Big, big sound, excellent tonality.
System Weaknesses: Working to clean up some remaining mid-bass heaviness. this is a small problem, and I believe it can be fixed with more bass traps.
Video/HT System: None
