Amplifier: | Sony STR-DE545 Dolby Digital/DTS ReceiverI got this for $250 at Sears, I figure that this is one of the things that I will want to replace the soonest, so I didn't spend too much money on it. It has all of the switching and decoding capabilities I need. There is a noticable hiss during quiet passages, but it can put out some nice power for both music and home theater.Larger Picture Back

Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): | None (YET)
|
Speakers: | Klipsch KSF-8.5I picked these up on sale for $300 at Tweeter a semester ago and they're worth every cent. Unfortunately, in their current position, they don't give the bass justice, but I'll be taking them home for the summer in a week, so I'll be able to see what they can do. I am new to the horn design, but I like it. Bose 301 Series IV These Bose speakers were my front speakers until, I bought the Klipsch, now they're kinda just an extra set of speakers since I bought the new surrounds (see below). I like these speakers a lot, however due to their direct-reflecting design, they need to be placed in a very optimum position that doesn't seem to exist in my frat house.Larger Picture

CD Player/DAC: | Sony CDP-CX450 400 CD Changer, I'll worry about a reference quality CD player when I have a system that will do it justice, in the mean time, I like easy access to all my music, and the CD Text Capabilities coupled with both a TV display and LCD display on the remote make picking songs as easy as can be, doesn't sound half bad either. Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): | There is a sort of stage type thing built on the one side of my room that the TV and the components rest on. |
Tweaks: | None |
Room Size (LxWxH): | 20 x 12 x 9 |
Room Comments/Treatments: | I live in a room with 5 people, and have to make do with a less than perfect setup, but it has served me well this past semester. |
Music Preferences and Comments:
|
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | Just about everything that isn't country or opera. My current favorite CD is Metallica's S & M: Live with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, it's an awesome combination of everything I love. |
System Goals/Comments: | My Goal is a full THX-Certified Home Theater System, however, I am severely limited by the space and budget contraints of being a college student |
System Strengths: | I think I'm doing quite well for the $1500 or so I've spent on the stereo system, I just bought the Klipsch speakers 12/15/00, but I'll keep you updated. |
System Weaknesses: | I fell into the marketing traps and purchased Bose and Sony this summer before I had done ANY research, I wish I could have put the money in other places, but I like what I have. |
Video/HT System:
Integrated |
TV/Projector: | None at the moment, my roommates won't let me have a TV this semester, instead I'm FORCED to go watch DVDs down on our 53inch big screen on the first floor sans surround sound though |
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: | Same as for music |
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): | Atlantic Technology 454e SR I just bought these on ebay for $400, i'm reallly excited to replace the Bose with these dipoles. They are THX certified yet still sound good with music. |
Sources (DVD/VCR): | Pioneer Elite THX-Ultra Certified DV-05 |
Comments on HT System: | I need to buy a center channel speaker to complete my 5 speaker surround sound. A sub is going ot have to wait until I graduate, the neighbors probably wouldn't like it |
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: | Junior at Massachusetts Institute of Technology |
