Amplifier: | Kenwood 600 Integrated amp ("purist series") Rated 130 WPC; actually putting out 150. Has plenty of cool buttons and switches.....that all actually do something. |
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): | none needed. |
Speakers: | JBL L-110 Great 3-way bookshelf speakers; my favorite of the JBL's of that era (late 70's - to early 80's |
Sources: | |
CD Player/DAC: | Nec CD-410. |
Turntable/Phono Stage: | Ariston RD-11 Superieur with SME II (3009R)arm; my reference turntable and another beautiful and rare John Carrick design. Had a direct drive Kenwood KD500 "rock" table, but it was just taking up space so I sold it to some strunz on ebay. My RD90 Sup. now resides in Hong Kong. |
Other Source(s): | KLH model 21 table radio. Tandberg TCD-310Mk II cassette deck. Signal-seeking tube AM radio in my car. |
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | Good old 16 gauge wire. Nothing special. It works. Usually........ |
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): | None. |
Tweaks: | None. |
Room Size (LxWxH): | 20' x 20' x 12' |
Room Comments/Treatments: | It's a decent room, neither too live nor too dampened. Comfortable. The cats like it. |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | Anything and everything by Jeff Beck. The early Who, the Rolling Stones, Yardbirds (w/Beck), Love w/Arthur Lee, Mott the Hoople, early Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Free.....60s thru 80s, Nirvana, Love (60's L.A.band), Tom Petty & Heartbreakers, and Mudcrutch. 60's U.S. garage bands, and plenty of British blues; especially by Peter Green/OLD Fleetwood Mac. And... Albert King, Willie Dixon, McKinley Morganfield. Bass playing, singing, songwriting, piano playing, and cello playing of Jack Bruce, my all-time favorite. |
System Goals/Comments: | I love this system, because I put it together simply, relatively cheaply, and it sounds great! Have had much high-end audio over the years, but there's something basic and special about this system that I like best. Good as they sound, I don't miss messing with tubes. But only use tube bass amps. |
System Strengths: | Great warm but tight bass, live sounding mids and highs. That amp is a killer. |
System Weaknesses: | Nothing glaring. But I can't lift the Kenwood 600 alone, unless I want lifetime paralysis. |
Video/HT System: None | |
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: | .... old (50's and 60's) cars; especially my '54 OLDSMOBILE, play bass guitar, being with my 26 and 22 year old sons. Raccoons. Domestic cats and African Wildcats. Bass guitars, especially early Gibson pre'68 EB-3 and some old Fenders. |
