Room Size (LxWxH): 21'/6.4m x 17'/5.2m x Variable
Room Comments/Treatments: Living room of open concept home with large openings to other rooms & stairs. Vaulted ceiling in front half of the room. 4 absorbers are mounted in the vaulted ceiling and 2 in the stairwell to kill the echo. Carpeted. No other treatments are really necessary since there are no significant reflections and the bass response is pretty flat.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Lots. See my other system for a list.
System Goals/Comments: My wife is a big movie watcher and this is mostly her system, so HT performance is a priority. When listening to 2ch music, I'm usually playing with my daughter, but I occasionally sneak in a little critical listening when I'm home alone.
System Strengths: Neutral, accurate midrange.
Wide and notably tall soundstage (C2's forte).
Fills the large open room nicely.
Room response is surprisingly flat.
Has a refined, relaxing sound at low volumes but can rock hard when the volume is turned up.
System Weaknesses: Marantz Pre/Pro is a weak link even in Pure Direct mode, limiting soundstage depth and dynamics.
Top end rolls off when you're not seated, due to Dynaudio's DDC.
Asymmetric speaker placement in room results in left speaker having less bass extension than the right.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Pioneer PDP-6010FD 60" Kuro
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Marantz AV8801
Simaudio Titan HT200 covers the front, center, and surround channels
Parasound A23 for the rear surrounds
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Dynaudio Contour S CX center
2x Dynaudio BM14S II subwoofers
4x Aperion 532LR surrounds
Sources (DVD/VCR): Linn Majik DS, Oppo BDP-103, Comcast cable, OTA broadcast TV, XBox, Wii
Comments on HT System: It looks and sounds great for movies. The Kuro is my wife's favorite possession.
But the system isn't up to snuff for multichannel music: the Marantz isn't transparent enough unless you run analog in/out in Pure Direct mode and the Aperion surrounds aren't a good match without Audyssey engaged (and even then they're not great)
