Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): | Nakamichi 410 |

Sources: | |
CD Player/DAC: | NAD |
Turntable/Phono Stage: | Thorens TD166 mark 2. Cartridge: Sumiko blue point #2 |
Other Source(s): | Yamaha T-70 tuner. Purchased on ebay for $29 in pristine condition, which included the original packaging, service manual and even the invoice from December 1982, when this tuner sold for $370. |
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | Radio Shack - nothing primo but they work |
Room Size (LxWxH): | 20 x 14 x 8 |
Room Comments/Treatments: | Nothing purposeful. The basement room is covered with a Berber rug and a few paintings line the snotty pine walls. |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | classical, opera, rock, some jazz |
System Goals/Comments: | To keep these components as long as they work. The Nak and Quad were purchased in January 1978; the Yamaha tuner in 1979 and the Thorens table in 1985. My next cartridge might be an Ortophon bronze M. |
System Strengths: | Great synergy between components. The Quad 405, once used to drive a pair of Quad 57s, works very well with the 1230s. |
System Weaknesses: | Even the "best"systems could use improvement. The illusive holy grail of hi-fi will always be illusive. |
