longtimequadowner 's Make the most of a small room System
IP Address: Last Update: March 30, 2020 at 14:16:27
Amplifier: Onkyo TX-SR373 - don't laugh the thing sings with immediacy and images like nothing else I've heard in a nearfield setting - within it's limits the sound is effortless - and has (gasp) excellent tone controls operable by remote. Plugged into a 1990's monster powerbar that was expensive and very positively reviewed at the time - looks like a Monster PowerCenter HTS 2000 but is likely a predecessor by a few years
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Receiver
Speakers: Quad 11L2
CD Player/DAC: DSpeaker Antimode 2.0 fed optically from Apple TV and/or USB from PC. Cannot wax poetic enough about the value of this wonderful piece - unless you have a massive room your bass just ain't right without it. Fabulous DAC in it's own right.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Technics SL-Q303 Ortofon Concorde 40th Anniversary with Vincent Audio PHO-8
Other Source(s): Apple TV via optical or Macbook Air via USB
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Kimber 4PR in one 373/11L2 system, Kimber 8PR in the second 373/11L2 system
Room Size (LxWxH): 23 x 13 x 8
Room Comments/Treatments: I have a 23x13 living room but with L shaped dining room - in reality it is a T shape because the dining room has a door in just the right spot. My 11L2's are on the floor about 4 feet away 5 feet apart - angled up - right in the room where the T crosses. This gives me an overall 23x21 space - no wall is anywhere near me except a wall I'm right beside, but amazingly with no other walls to entrap the music it has little to no effect. Learned long ago there is no substitute for a BIG room - even the DSPeaker cannot make a small room big (image wise) - but my setup accurately mimics the 25x60 room I used to have. What does it sound like? Like headphones - but huge - the utter and complete freedom & effortlessness of headphones in a large, articulate, relaxed picture with amazing depth.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Lounge (true 50's lounge to modern electronic lounge), electronic from chill to psychadelic trance and warehouse-sized deep fm/house, and progressive, rock from classic to metal, pop 50's through 70's, and yes will do hiphop esp the deep long mixes
System Goals/Comments: This is my final system, all goals that matter have been reached. This system can play beautiful music beautifully, or spit metal at you like none other. Delivers exactly the same musical experience at even the lowest of volumes - condo owners dream
System Strengths: It's like wearing VR music goggles - simply amazing
System Weaknesses: None I can find, won't be changing a thing
Video/HT System: None
