OneFish 's Living Room System
IP Address: 74.96.183.91 Last Update: October 26, 2018 at 15:47:53
Amplifier: Pass INT-60 plus a Feliks Elise Headphone Amp
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None
Speakers: Aerial Acoustics 6t plus Focal Elear headphones
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: DAC/Streaming: SimAudio 280d with MIND Streaming module and IOS app for control. Currently running Roon off a USB link to an Intel i7 NUC sourcing from the ReadyNas.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Turntable: Thorens TD-166 MkII w/Shure M97XE cartridge.
Phono Stage: Cambridge Audio Azure 651P.
Analog-to-digital: Behringer U-Control UCA222, coupled to MacBook Pro with Audacity software.
Other Source(s): NetGear ReadyNAS, 4x3Tb, RAID 5 w/additional 4Tb USB outboard single backup drive, 150k songs, running ReadyDLNA streaming server software.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Speakers: Rapco Horizon 4x13GA from Guitar Center, biwired at the speaker terminals.
Interconnects: Generic unbalanced RCA for now. Balanced to come next, probably Mogami/Neutrik homemade runs
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): 20A home run from plug to panel for Amp and DAC/Streamer. Separate homerun for media closet housing routers, assorted drives, and NAS box.
Tweaks: Homemade Walnut and Maple rack with 1 1/2" thick Baltic Birch shelves.
Room Comments/Treatments: No room tweaks feasible - it's a shared space. There is a 1937 Chickering baby grand piano, books, fireplace, assorted furnishings, wood floors, rugs, 8'-2" ceilings, and lots of windows. The Ginger Cat has not proven to have any detrimental affect on sound quality.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Classical, Jazz, World, Miscellaneous Rock, some older rock
System Goals/Comments: The goal was to create a first-class system that did not take over the Living Room and was relatively easy to use; SAF was important and I did not want to turn the equipment stack into too much of an icon, it's about the music, after all
System Strengths: High degree of resolution; great bass; strong imaging; high dynamic range; black background; musical, but analytical enough to go that route some days
System Weaknesses: Speakers slightly too far apart for listening position; uncontrolled spatial volume - the Living Room opens directly into several other spaces, but then that lets everyone hear.
Video/HT System: None
