daledeee's Dale's system System
IP Address: 204.141.215.157 Last Update: March 10, 2020 at 05:12:12
Amplifier: Schiit Aegir. 20W. Excellent Class A amp for $800. Good company to work with.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): forget it. I have more volume controls than I need.
Speakers: Crites Cornscala Type "B" These are almost identical to Klipsch Cornwall in size. True value with good quality components and great sound. Hand made of 3/4" birch plywood. 15" proprietary woofer, Selenium horn and tweeter.
Efficient at about 100dB
Also use 2-10" DIY subs powered by Yamaha P2700. Subs played in stereo. Excellent bass. This goes through a Marchand XM1 crossover set at 100 Hz
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: outdated
Turntable/Phono Stage: sold records years ago...sigh
Other Source(s): Bluesound Node 2i from Amazon HD. Then added a Topping D90 DAC. Got streamer refurbished for $419 and D90 is excellent value DAC at $630.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Pine Tree Audio. Oxygen free copper good shielding. Ribbon speaker cables with Nakamichi banana plugs
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Dedicated power line. No power conditioners
Room Size (LxWxH): 21 x 13 x 7
Room Comments/Treatments: Suspended ceiling. Added bass traps in 3 corners. First reflection points. Still investigating diffusion. The panels are homemade and not optimal but this helped the sound greatly.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Rock: classic, alternative, new
Electronic: all types
A little jazz and classical
System Goals/Comments: Getting pretty close to where I want to be based on my budget.
System Strengths: Excellent imaging, detail, clarity, "live" sounding. Excellent bass to 30 Hz. Some drop off but goes down to 20 Hz. Subs are integrated well with room and main speakers Will play loud but can't do it any more(my ears). Everything except sub system is new so should be trouble free for a while. If sub system should fail, I can listen to the Crites speakers full range.
System Weaknesses: Bluesound controller is a step down from Amazon functionality. Sometimes song displayed is not the song played?? Speakers are big so hope I don't have to move.
Video/HT System: None
