Tom B.'s MY LITTLE SYSTEM System
IP Address: 73.19.16.116 Last Update: September 22, 2021 at 12:45:48
Amplifier: This is my BottleHead Paraglow with 3 Watts via a 2A3 Power tube. I also have a damn good DIY Nelson Pass "First Watt F5" that produces 36 watts.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): EAR 834L Line stage preamp + EAR 834P Phono Stage/I'm using 3 NOS Sylvannia 5751s in 834P
Speakers: This generally is how my new room looks as of 12-01-2016 in my new home in Bellingham, Wa. The late great Terry Cain developed the single diver Voight Pipe "Abby" after years of research and several trips to Japan. They're 6' tall with a port at the bass for the lower frequencies. I think they're gorgeous.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: I'm using a PC via USB to Musical Fidelity M1 Dac usually streaming at 24/96. I have about 9 Terabits of downloads on Seagate 3TB HDs/ Marantz 8001 SACD player/ Cal Delta Transport connected to the M1 DAC as well
Turntable/Phono Stage: Rega Planar 3 and a RP6 with the 6 I'm using a LOMC Shelter 5000 for stereo playback The Planar 3 is used for Mono plavback with a Lyra Helikon Mono LOMC as well as a Audio-Technica AT33 Mono
Other Source(s): STAX 006tii tubed HEAD amp with 404 Electrostatic earphones. This combo is simply breath-taking!! For conventional head phones I have a Head Room "Maxed Out Home" amplifier which can be used as a great SS preamp as well.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Cardas "Golden Presence" speaker cables, Harmonic Technology 'Pro-Silway MK II' everywhere else
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): I'm using two Maple Shade 4 inch blocks to support my Paraglow 2A3 simply because they look great and I no longer needed the maple for a previous set up.
Tweaks: Shunyata treatments for both main power cords
Room Size (LxWxH): 14' x 24' x 10'
Room Comments/Treatments: I have baffling on both sides of my room at the 1st reflection point. You can see them in the photo above
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): I've been into Jazz for the last few years after being almost entirely obsessed with Classical. The music of Thelonious Monk is as deep as Schoenberg's compositions, but based on African American sources for direction as opposed to European traditions
System Goals/Comments: Not to think of the technology, but just enjoy the music.
System Strengths: Very musical.....and with the flea-powered 2A3 SET.....warmth...warmth...warmth!!
System Weaknesses: The bottom drops off quite a bit below 40 HZ, but I'm able to intergrate an Omega Sub Woofer with 12"driver rated at 96db! It's super fast with crisp well focused low frequencies without a hint of bloating.
Video/HT System: None
